Re: 2010 Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
Will this also include a runway expansion? I read a while ago that Jetstar was looking at starting service to Charleroi - however I don't think the runway is long enough to accommodate any wide-body aircraft

For the runway extension there is a political issue....Ecolo (green party) is against and try to delay the extension.
They even proposed to accept an extension but of a few hundreds meters which would make no big difference ...which would maybe allow some medium haul flights ?

I don't think that's in the plan
medium haul like tel aviv is done from Liège actually.

And you forgot to mention something Atlantis, when it comes to negotiate routes between Belgium and another country, here comes the Ministry van de mobiliteit...
I doubt any "real" international flight will land one day in CRL if the responsabilities to grant the traffic rights are not given to the regio's.
Also, Flight to Australia from CRL?
They would have to make a stop somewhere....BKK??
Regi do you like this idea??

With A319 perhaps
Re: 2010 Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
it would make more sense for a stop in SIN then as its a sister company's hub.
btw JQ doesn't have A319's and the "joke" is getting old

This thread is going nowhere. I delete all posts not related to CRL.

This is probably a question for acid-drop. Whatever happened to the 3 russian MIL helicopters that were parked at CRL for years? Scrapped, flown somewhere...still there at a different location in the airport?

Weren't they trucked to Ostend or something?azingrew wrote:This is probably a question for acid-drop. Whatever happened to the 3 russian MIL helicopters that were parked at CRL for years? Scrapped, flown somewhere...still there at a different location in the airport?

dear sn, where do you find the load factors, please? I'm very interested in them. Thanks a lot.sn26567 wrote:With a load factor of 87% between CRL and Figari, it seems that Ryanair should be able to finance the flights without subsidies!

This partucular one was found in the press. But I do not remember exactly where...stefanel wrote:dear sn, where do you find the load factors, please? I'm very interested in them. Thanks a lot.

airazur, had no idea subject ( the MIL 26) had been discussed here before. I guess that answer my question, thanks a lot. By the way, Stefanel, I read about the load factor flights to Figari in " Le Figaro"
and indeed they mentioned 87 % but I wouldn't read too much into it, this a ( very) seasonal route which would have been cancelled anyway. Typical of M.O.L to blame local authorities when indeed his decision to cancel was probably already taken. Wanna bet it's gonna be back next summer?

According to an article in La Libre Belgique today:
Jetairfly will base a 3rd aeroplane in Charleroi and open a new destination, Athens, as of next summer. It will also increase the frequency of its flights to Tenerife and Algiers and separate flights with double destinations: Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
