Another emergency, now with a B747.
Will Qantas send out the same message:
ground all B747 worldwide of any airline with the same engines
no maintenance problem but probably due to a design fault.
nothing to do with the vulcano
I wonder about double standards...
A Qantas airline jumbo jet has been forced to return to Singapore because of an engine problem.

This begs the question: was the 747 in question used to transport passengers from the A380?

No, regular flight. The others were picked up by an other 747 with an 8000 flight number.

The 747 has Rolls-Royce Group Plc Trent 900 engines according to this news story:
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-1 ... owout.html
It reads in part "Some of the Australian airline’s 747s are powered by Rolls- Royce RB211 turbines that were upgraded with Trent technology .....".

A Trent 900 is not a RB211 upgraded with Trent technology. The type of engines used on this particular Qantas 747 is not yet known.

Yes it is known...
The ship involved in the incident was VH-OJD, delivered in 1989 to Qantas. Engines are Rolls Royce RB-211-524G2. I'm not sure that it are upgraded ones like the 744 had with the incident in SFO.
