Stij,

Why not due to tax ??
Easyjet was there already and FR is already active, but no German
destinations so far..
Germanwings can have a little success there by opening routes,
Spain,Italy,France could be intresting ..
But no doubt after one year the tax will be swiped away and so Germanwings
Maastricht experience also..
Let's hope they will come..

Maybe LGG can have also some.. ;)

Well,

Germanwings catchment area is mainly the Düsseldorf / Köln area and offers also a lot of intra German destinations. I son;t think these customers will travel all the way to Holland to catch a flight. The tax isn't that high either...

Apart from this, Maastricht is a really small airport, unable to support a move from Germanwings from Cologne. And as you wrote, probably in afew years the tax will be abolished and Germanwings will move back. Maastricht knows this and probably won't make the neccesary investments to accomodate them...

Bet, I hope they'll come as Maastricht is the most easy airport for me to reach!

Cheers,

Stij

The specific market they have, with a lot of intra-german flight, make it difficult to move.
Otherwise, it's quite a surprised that they were not interested by adding CRL or MST before, tax or no tax ... The population is dense, and many other similar companies have great sucess so ...

LGG is too focused on cargo, I don't think it's a real alternative, although the pax terminal is not bad at all and far from being crowded.

Or, more probably, that tax will be applied in a lot of, perhaps in all - European countries ...

cnc,

I do see ?? them start up..

regarding Stij's answer,
I think you forgot the word NOT in your reply, isn't it ?

I do see them starting up in Maastricht, not to get more Dutch but to gain some Belgians, keep the Dutch and
passing some Germans away from Cologne who were running for the tax.
But I never believe there will stay there, anyway I don't know much of the tax but is the tax paid also
for landing in Germany or just FROM Germany ?
In case FROM the internal routes can last as it is Maastricht AACHEN(!) airport haha !
No really I do see them staying here for as long as it takes, remember the DUTCH tax THERE was
indeed a DOWNSIZE of flights within Holland so the results of tax was indeed a reason to cancel it again, and to start up some flights from Weeze for FR ,wasn't it ??
Let's wait and see!

I hope they will come to EIN ! ;) but okay MST is only 20 min further, I deal with it haaha?
What about Air Berlin ?? Love to see them competing from MST-EIN, but this is just dreaming I guess ???

The answer is, of course, on Luchtzak: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=42961&p=237389

"GERMANY departing air passengers, will have to pay a tax of €8 for short haul European flights, including domestic, €25 medium haul and €45 on long range services"

Hi,

Like always ;) 8-)

So Germanwings could have a better deal, departing from MST-AACHEN,
so a lot of 'regional/domestic' flights can be handled without tax !
Hoping to get on a few domestic ? flights from MST in that case..
Berlin,Bayern,Hamburg,.. nice..

So take EZ,FR on a fare of about 15/20 euro's people will choose MST above
Germany Koln,... strange but it isn't that much but too much for the most of
LCC pax I guess...
Think only LCC will be reduced in pax, don't think LH/other 'full service' will deal about it..
it isn't nice but who cares ...
.. the same with fuel-charge, a lot of pax complained but how many cancelled their flight..?
Smoking.. not nice but who stops smoking about this extra tax.. some of them but this was just the first extra tax..

Think: driving from Cologne area to MST (and return) would cost about 40 Eur ! New boarding tax in Germany (only..) 20 Eur, so where is the saving for German travellers ?
Sorry for MTS but to me,it smells like basic blackmailing from Germanwings.

It's not just about the passengers coming from the CGN-Area. Also in Aachen / Mönchengladbach / Düren / Limburg(NL+B) / Eindhoven / Liege area there are lots of people driving to DUS/CGN to catch a flight. Certainly for these people it would be good if Germanwings would start operations from MST as the ride to the airport would be shorter oder same length as now and you would save the German taxes!
