Cathay Pacific reported record profit in 1H 2010, and announced order of 30 A350-900 and 6 additional B777-300ER.

That means the A350-900 will replace A340-300, B777-200, and some older A330-300, while B777-300ER (with 18 more to be delivered with the latest additional 6) will replace B747-400, with some growth.

Cathay Pacific is expected to expand its Australian services

"Cathay spokesman David Bell said yesterday that the airline, which has more than 5 per cent of the market to and from Australia, would add four flights from Sydney from November 15, bringing it to four flights a day.

"The daily Perth-Hong Kong service would increase from November 16 by three flights to 10 flights a week, while an extra Brisbane-Cairns-Hong Kong service would be added from November 21.

"This brings Cairns up to daily and then it gives Brisbane 11 flights a week," Mr Bell said."

In an interview with Bloomberg, CX CEO Tony Tyler said that new A350-900 will be used to serve new secondary cities in Europe and the U.S. that don’t have enough demand to fill larger planes.

So which "secondary cities" is he talking about? He refused to elaborate in the interview, but that doesn't stop us from guessing...

USA: Chicago, Dallas-Ft Worth, Houston, Las Vegas, Honolulu
Europe: Manchester (UK), Zurich, Berlin, Istanbul, Stockholm, Barcelona, Brussel, Budapest
