ryanair to fly again from EBOS???
Kanaalz reports:
In English: Gino Vanspauwen -the manager of Ostend-Bruges international airport- says he is negotiating with Ryanair to open 2 new lines from Ostend.
Does someone know more and has someone an idea which new destinations it would be??? I think Pisa and Gerona.

I think there is a fair chance Ryanair will start operating from Ost again. I always found it a weird flight from OST-LON, it may be on of the shortest flights (distancewise) Ryanair ever did, being only 195Km.
The market they were looking for where the tourists visiting Bruges, and the Belgian cost, which are mostly visited by the older generation, travelling by coach.
A flight to DUB would have worked better, because the distance is bigger, and Ireland is an apealling country for young and old.
Same for Italy, where maybe Roma, or Venice could be the new destinations, or sunny spain.

STN-OST was indeed a strange idea: they had to cope with the low prices of the boat...
DUB would indeed be a possible place...
In my opinion they are goint to choose a safe bet: destinations with a good mix of "business" (not as far as class is concerned
Moreover their destination is likely to be one of their hubs: Roma CIA, Gerona or Bergamo for Southern Europe.
For Nothern Europe: Dublin, Shannon, Glasgow PIK, Stockholm.
Anyway time will tell

Personnally, my 2 guesses are Dublin and Hahn. Some time ago Ryanair announced they would make Hahn their biggest hub on the european mainland. About Dublin I agree with B737229 and OO-SBZ. More distance and hopefully more passengers. A few weeks ago I counted all passengers getting on board of the 737-800 to STN. It were 153. That's a small 81% of the aircraft that's filled ... That doesn't seem too bad to me
We'll just have to wait a bit longer to know where the routes might go to ... I just hope they make Ostend Airport a bit more attractive for other airlines as well ...

I remember that before Ryanair started flying to OST, there were plans to open routes to OST not only from STN, but also from Treviso. (This seems currently impossible since Treviso is not a base for Ryanair. Maybe these plans can be made actual again in case Ryanair would transform Treviso to one of it's bases.)
But what would be the 2nd destination from OST...?

I don't think Hahn is an option, It is faster for half the country to take the car and drive to Hahn.
Hahn Airport has a nice terminal building with many shops. The Germans are organized relay good.
I left twice form Hahn and I have to say that this is one of the most remote Ryanair airports. The bus service from Hahn is really good, there goes a bus to almost every place in Germany. Maybe thats why this base is so successfull.
The best routes from Chaleroi are Dublin and airports in the South, especially during the summer season, but what is the impact on the load factor when you fly from two airports in the same country to these destinations !!!! Belgium isn't big.
Stansted can only be seasonal from Oostend, its already tough for Ryanair to fill seats to Stansted from Chaleroi. This line didn't show much profitability yet, but what can you expect when you see there promotion after promotion.
I believe it is not a smart move to open the same Chaleroi routes from Oostend, this will only have a negative impact on the load factor for Chaleroi. Two airport so close and in one country gives Ryanair a good negotiation position to move there operations to the cheapest in the future.
Ryanair doesn't like 3 hour flights but if they go after the big money they have to open routes to Turkey from Chaleroi / Oostend and Hahn. That is a guaranteed money maker.
Oostend airport is not centrally located so I don't see a big future there for any airline that needs volume, maybe seasonal, to bad....

Everybody seems to be confidant that Ryanair is going to open one, maybe two routes from Oostend !. Both parties are talking but what does that mean !.
There is not one destination Ryanair can operate from Oostend that they cant operate from CLR.
Operating the same CLR routes from Oostend has a negative impact on flights from CLR. There is not one flight from CLR with overcapacity anyway !.
Two options here :
1.
After a positive EU ruling, Ryanair blackmail's both airports and moves its operations to the cheapest one.
2.
Ryanair starts a new route from Oostend, but can make a profit and brakes its contract.
I believe Antwerp is a better alternative for airlines especially LCC's, once they expand the airport there is see a positive future for that place. Oostend ! I am sorry but I don't see that project going anywhere.

Well maybe Ryanair will move to Antwerp, they know they capture then even more Dutch tourists then now in CRL pluas ofcourse the Belgium tourists. And what about business travellers to Antwerp? Isn't there a market for them with the diamond and harbor industry in Antwerp? On the other hand, this will be very close to Eindhoven for them and maybe also not interesting, we will see.
