Ryanair on board luggage policy vs air safety procedures?
Ryanair on board luggage policy vs air safety procedures?
FR 5464 - 05 JUIL. 2010 – MAD-CRL
Boarding in MAD with a 10 min. delay / left with a 1 hour and a half delay.
Why? More passengers on board than the boarding pass count (3 –THREE ! – apparently).
I could watch the whole show at the front of the plane: recount / passenger's calls / blablabla /recount / what do we do? /recheck on board of all boarding pass / should everybody get out? /abnormality detected / slot lost
The problem with RYANAIR is that they are too busy at the gate checking whether your camera, your umbrella, or your wife’s purse is inside the only main bag allowed (and spending time charging 35 EUR at gate for not doing so). They have no time to focus on the main issue: air safety procedures and security.

If they wouldn't focus on security and operational procedures sir, you would have taken off with on time. WITH the 3 extra passengers and no double checking, Be happy "the show" was there for your safety

But why no better check at the gate (I think it's more an airport fault !)

Re: Ryanair on board luggage policy vs air safety procedures
I think the problem here is the short turn-around time. That gives a high pressure. Ryanair wants a check at the gate about the hand-luggage, boarding numbers has to be put inside the computer, handling company can only make profit with low paid trainees at the gate, etc etc etc..........
Re: Ryanair on board luggage policy vs air safety procedures
I have to agree with andorra-airport. The short turn around time coupled with the extra demands on boarding/gate personnel can only increase the chance of such mishaps.

The boarding cards are carefully checked and signed by a Ryanair cabin crew when entering the aircraft.
All passengers on board had thus a valid boarding pass.
It seems there was a discrepancy between the number of passengers on board and the number written on the dispatcher's sheet.
Not necessarily Ryanair fault.

Signed? Yes, always! checked? Most of the times yes, but not always, once I handed over my outbound boarding card instead of the inbound (I admit, on purpose, for the fun of it) and she just added another signature.airazurxtror wrote:The boarding cards are carefully checked and signed by a Ryanair cabin crew when entering the aircraft.
As a matter of fact, wrong pax in wrong plane happened in the past as well, also on full fare airlines

OK Stijn, now you have to tell us more which airline makes such a mistakes, so we can fly on a cheap ticket to, let's say, Papeete. ( with Air France , in business class if possible)Stij wrote:Signed? Yes, always! checked? Re: Ryanair on board luggage policy vs air safety procedures
It happened in 2001 on a VEX plane from LHR to BRU. After the headcount it appeared something was wrong and it turned out a pax for a BA or IB flight to MAD was on board. So he passed the boarding agents and the cabin crew without anything being noticed until pas were counted and boarding passes verified.

Re: Ryanair on board luggage policy vs air safety procedures
Why aren't these boarding cards checked with a barcode reader?
Re: Ryanair on board luggage policy vs air safety procedures
Some companies do this, especially at their hubs. I'm afraid there's problem with standards in orde to do it everywhere...jan_olieslagers wrote:Why aren't these boarding cards checked with a barcode reader?

That makes it sound like IATA is as idle/useless as European bureaucracy...?Stij wrote:I'm afraid there's problem with standards in orde to do it everywhere...jan_olieslagers wrote:Why aren't these boarding cards checked with a barcode reader?
