Finnair Plc - Press release
Finnair's growth in Asia continues, Singapore newest destination
Finnair will open a new route to pulsating Singapore. Finnair's daily flight
will be one of the fastest links between Europe and Singapore.

“Finnair's Asian strategy has worked extremely well. Demand has continually
strengthened and now is a good time to increase capacity and boost our market
share in Asia's growing market. This new stage of our growth strategy will
create many opportunities for us,” says Finnair's President & CEO Mika
Vehviläinen.

Finnair will be the only airline to offer a daily connection between Singapore
and Northern Europe with a timetable that suits the needs of business
passengers.

“Singapore is one of Asia's most important destinations for business
passengers, because the Asian operations of many European companies are centred
there. For Asian passengers, the Singapore route offers excellent onward
connections via Finnair's route network to 50 European destinations,” adds
Vehviläinen.

Singapore is a convenient departure point for travelling to Australia and
Southeast Asia using Finnair's comprehensive partner network. The Singapore
route will also offer excellent leisure travel opportunities to Singapore and
neighbouring countries, as Malaysia and Indonesia.

Singapore's Changi Airport has been ranked as one of the world's finest
airports and it offers outstanding facilities and services, especially for
business travellers.

Finnair will operate the Singapore service with Airbus A340 aircraft. The new
route will be opened on 30 May 2011.

That's a nice new route!

Isn't there any service anymore by SK or SQ in the region? After a quick check there is a direct nonstop service by SQ into and out of CPH but it's a 3-weekly only.

Still I doubt FI can fill an A340 HEL-SIN on a daily basis unless they seriously undercut the competition's fares. Also Singapore isn't exactly oneworld territory although one can connect onto many of QF's services.

Well, actually oneworld is now looking into territories where it has less presence (Kingfisher joining OW alliance). But SIN is already catered by AY partners BA and QF who will play a major role in extending AY's network to Australia. With Australia, AY will have 3 gateways to Australia (HKG,BKK and SIN).

SIN is also a major location for a lot of Global corporates Asia-Pacific ops.

I will not go into fares at this point, but if you know AY's strategy a bit, you can be sure that it will be competitive fares.

Yep, most passengers are happy about Finnair. And their prices are quite often the lowest .
Maybe they have good agreements for connections to the Phillippines, Bali and the rest of Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and so on.
