If Ryanair wants it they should build it

I don't mind the state investing to stimulate low cost air transport (don't count on LH out of BRU for that). Looking at the bigger picture, I consider this to be interesting for the tax payer who can now go on holiday for peanuts.

The purchasing power for those who travel has gone up and those who couldn't travel can now affoard to do so. I don't see any loosers here.

I also feel you're missing out on all the indirect jobs being generated and what about all the extra tourists&other coming into Belgium. I don't know however if the amount of foreign passengers visiting belgium exceeds the amount of Belgiums going away (is there a net tourist inflow due to Charleroi?)

How many exits does the terminal have? I think 12 or less which is so borderline for 11 FR aircraft based there so all leaving around 6:30 am plus the JAF aircraft etc. (don't know whichever airline has aircraft based as well).
now, about the new destinations, why is it never East like Germany, CZE... ??

12 gates and 9 for Shengen I believe.
Besides the 12 gate stands, a Ryanair pilot told me that they are creating 8 or so remote positions on the other side of the apron by removing one of two apron taxiways and they have another 12 stands on the South side where the MIL's were parked. That's 32 positions and 12 gates, it's easily manageable with the right amount of busses.

There are 12 stands plus 7 remote positions (since several weeks now). However you cannot load or unload passengers on those remote positions.
There are 12 Ryanair aircraft based, plus 2 Jetair. Well I think a 13th Ryanair aircraft has been based recently (but I'm not sure) and I have been told they will base 5 additional aircraft next winter (spare aircraft)
Edit : those 5 additional aircraft will be parked on the south side (but again, I guess we will never see any loading or unloading of passengers there, because there is no service road to transfer passengers to the terminal)

Now, the real looser, it's probably BRU ...

In what way? BRU might loose some European traffic (but that market will rationalize in BRU), but on the other hand is showing steady growth figures long haul. This summer alone there are six new destinations and just recently Qatar announced a new route as from next January.

You should see the parking at BRU during Dutch holidays: full of yellow-black license plates.

Low cost flying, either from CRL or EIN, lures away some potential traffic from BRU, but not in such number it should disturb BRU management.

Yes it's very positive for long haul, and it's very negative for european trafic.
Now if that make a positive total, then everybody is happy I guess

Very negative? In the last month with 'normal' operations of which I can see pax numbers (March), BRU had a decrease in shengen pax of 1,7 % while extrashengen pax rose with 7 %.

That's far from 'very' negative in my opinion.

CRL, although very nice numbers indeed, is in a completely different market then BRU. The market CRL serves is far less depending on economical circumstances then BRU's market.

I'd say congrats to CRL for the good numbers, keep up the good work, but stop putting BRU down. If CRL and/or EIN will gain passengers, it does not mean BRU will get hurt in a way the management should worry about it. The BRU management keeps doing its job and in a good way, the new routes prove it, and even JAF - which is in a market CRL is build for - maintains its hub at BRU and even expands its operations.

After landing on runway 25, the aircraft now turns to the right on the new taxiway and goes straight to the terminal; instead of turning left, passing in front of the old terminal and having to cross the runway to reach the apron. Much easier and more rapid.

Would have been great though if they had consulted with some pilots about the position of the exit , depending on weight it requires some fairly agressive braking .

These pilots always have something to grumble about. Even when CRL management went to all the trouble and expense of installing ILS on the new taxiway, a world first to my knowledge!

Block time being reduced, engine & APU utilisation is reduced as well, all benefit for the operator...
