I'll go for the latter (with a descent network in Africa). In the end, LH didn't buy SN to become a competitor of LH, but as a tool to prevent AF/KL for getting the entire Africa market. When ET comes into Star they (Star) have the same level playing field as AF/KL and thus the strategy is completed.NCB wrote:The difference between doing it or not doing it is that 10 years from now SN can be either the Singapore Airlines of Africa or a regional feeder for FRA because other players eat up on their market piece by piece.

Re: 5th A330 for Brussels Airlines
The idea is nice to have your own cargo aircrafts but not in this economic situation.
A lot of carriers are consolidating because of the fact that it is very difficult to operate cargo on your own and with a lot of competition these days. Look what is happening in the Far East and also here in Europe.
It is true that air cargo is rising again but under different circumstances. When we have a look at Brucargo then you will see that both Singapore cargo and Saudi Arabian Cargo are transporting less cargo via our airport due to....no cargo anymore.
But when you refer to Brussels Airlines and cargo to Africa then we can say that they can transport 15 ton, correct me if I'm wrong, on each way with their own A333. But they can work together with Hong Kong Airlines Cargo when they want to use Brussels airport. They want to fly via BRU to Africa with freight and will use therefore their new A330F.

OO-SFV was registered on the 31st of May in the Belgian Aircraft register. Normally the 5th would be the date of delivery....TUB023 wrote:one of the coming days i thinkwas it the 5th, or 15th? not sure

Re: 5th A330 for Brussels Airlines
Please don't use BA for Brussels Airlines. BA refers always to British Airways. Use SN of the full name "Brussels Airlines".blambrette wrote:Any information about arrival of this "New" BA aircraft ?

Re: 5th A330 for Brussels Airlines
This is not entirely true. SQ has reduced flying ex BRU, but increased flying ex AMS. Thus the cargo is there. Just not via BRU. BRU isn't in the most important cargo market called China (whereas AMS is). It's strange that an airport which is the home of a Star alliance airline doesn't receive flights from Jade or Great Wall, both (partially) set up by Star alliance members.... Maybe SN should ask its (future) parent why this is....Atlantis wrote: It is true that air cargo is rising again but under different circumstances. Re: 5th A330 for Brussels Airlines
We will have soon a cargo link with China. Jade or Great Wall are flying to AMS and FRA. if there is cargo out of Belgium it is trucked to these airports. They can't fly to every airport, they decide which airport is the best for them.LJ wrote:This is not entirely true. SQ has reduced flying ex BRU, but increased flying ex AMS. Thus the cargo is there. Re: 5th A330 for Brussels Airlines
Hong Kong Airlines (a subsidiary of Hainan) is supposed to start cargo operations to BRU this coming autumn. First, three flights a week, then six.
But what has this do do with the theme of this thread ?

Re: 5th A330 for Brussels Airlines
When do arrive this aircraft ? Before the 5th of July ? Or not ?
Re: 5th A330 for Brussels Airlines
It should certainly arrive before the 5th of July, this is when the extra AFI flights start. They will have a massive problem for sure if it's not here by then...nordikcam wrote:When do arrive this aircraft ? Before the 5th of July ? Or not ?
Re: 5th A330 for Brussels Airlines
Has the cabin interior already been installed, or does that still have to be done after the aircraft has arrived here? Any news about what kind of C seats? Apparently the current ones weren't available anymore as reported earlier somewhere in this thread (and old SN seats would be installedsdbelgium wrote:It should certainly arrive before the 5th of July, this is when the extra AFI flights start. Thanks. So new C seats like the current ones or a completely new model as suggested earlier as well?TUB023 wrote:no, it will be new seats, they are already installed:)
Re: 5th A330 for Brussels Airlines
I suppose a completly new model as the current seats aren't available anymore. I also heard that the economy seats are newer than the current ones. Is this true?134flyer wrote:Thanks.
