My last hope to keep Continental alive actually. I hope the Obama administration will halt the merger.
Not a chance this will happen, the merger will go through. Both airlines have few overlap, DOJ can't probably halt the merger (I'm pretty sure UA/CO have allready figured this out).
UA will be the acquiring airline, HQ will be located in Chicago, Smisek from CO will be CEO, Tilton from UA will be the chairman of the board untill he goes on retirement. UA will be the surviving brand. Management will be a mix with the best of both airlines.
The merger is actually a done deal, it probably was allready for some time...
I really hope that UA will hold his E+ section in every plane and that they keep the A319/320's arround... CO may be an all Boeing airline and while I'm a huge Boeing fan and have some issues with Airbus aircrafts I do like the A320 series better then the 737. With the widebodies Boeing is still my favourite though I hope that UA will hold his order of A350's arround... I'm rather sure that UA will introduce E+ throughout the whole (new) fleet but you'll never know with Smisek as CEO...
I've flewn both UA & CO and I like UA better then CO, but like always with favourite airlines, it's a personal choice... In the EU I even fly British Airways before I even think about flying with SN
Anyway, monday we'll see the announcement
