Brussels Airlines with put their SN code on 42 US Airways destinations as from the 7th of April
and on 34 destinations as from the 5th of May.

US Airways will puth their code on several european and african flights.
If the new BRU timetable is correct I count 50 US codeshares on SN operated flights and 42 by UA. Can this be correct, otherwise the BRU timetable is wrong. Both on all 18 AFI destinations.

I've just found an article about CO. An intervieuw about the Star membership and things like that and oh yes they mention SN/BRU.
...What we're seeing so far is the success of the Star network, in terms of the incredible amount of connectivity that's happening. ... We're seeing great demand for that global network that we see in Lufthansa. We're seeing terrific demand over Brussels to Africa and to other parts of Europe. SN Brussels just joined the Star Alliance. So, if anything, what we're seeing is beating our expectations in terms of the connectivity and the value of entering into Star. And likewise [we are] seeing the passengers come across our network....
We knew this already but it's still nice to hear it of Jim Compton (executive vice president and chief marketing officer). :)
But it's clear CO is happy with Star, BRU, SN, LH....

To give exact numbers about the increase in flights for SN this summer:
Thanks to the new 4 AFI destinations: AFI capacity +20%
In Europe the capacity is 6% up compared to summer 2009.
So: AFI +20%/ Europe +6%, I don't think that's bad.

Currently the summer bookings for the month May are 7% up compared to past year and the bookings for July are 10% higher than past year.
SN said they raised the capacity because they have confidence, they see a big improvement compared to past year but that was the "big crisis-year" and they say they aren't yet at the 2008 level.
SN also said they see that the business market is seriously recovering and that's a good sign. SN also said they experience "the Star Alliance effect", they get more bookings (thanks to all the new codeshares) and because of that the loadfactor is improving.

About the financial side. SN said they will make profit in 2010 and for the moment they are on shedule for that, but they say a lot will depend on the Dollar and the fuel prices.

Well I can say I've just found a nice article. :)
"Direct flights between Tokyo and Brussels on his way"
The negotiations about a non-stop flight between Tokyo and Brussels are in their final stages. ANA is about to start daily(!) operations with the B787-8 (!) in 2011. Brussels Airlines will be the commercial partner on the route. During a Belgian trade mission to Japan in April Yves Leterme will have direct contact with the management of ANA. He is already talking since weeks with the Japanese ambassador in Brussels.
But ANA is not the only one, also other Star members are looking to BRU. Brussels Airport has a priority list of 13 intercontinental destinations.

source: Dutch only http://trends.rnews.be/nl/economie/nieu ... 18274.htm#

So BRU will probably one of the first long haul B788 destinations. As ANA will first "test" the airplane on short-mid haul routes.

I always thought JAF would be the first 788 at BRU... But if it comes true, it is great news!

Can you imagine this on 25L? ;)

It's a secret list! ;)

Let's guess which destinations are on the list: I'd say Tokyo, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong,... Anyone can add?

Yes it's a secret list, but it is also a priorities list. ;) These 13 destinations get priority above others. (As mentionned in dutch in the article "prioriteitenlijst")

Exept Tokyo, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, I would also say Sao Paulo...

And now the million dollar question: is this a list based on what Brussels Airport wants/hopes or do they have legit information those routes are even possible or an intend by possible carriers to start them?

Well I suppose that Brussels Airport had donne enough research to know if these destinations are possible and if there is a carrier that want to talk about it.
You can say what you want but they did already some really nice jobs past years (Jet, Hainan, US...).

Great news! Probably a late afternoon arrival and evening departure, so the B Pier will become a bit less deserted around that time!

Anyway, with the increased SN bookings, new codeshares, the ‘Star Alliance’ effect and CO news like below, the future looks bright for BRU & SN!

I guess it won’t be long after the CO/SN codeshares have started, that CO will some way start expanding to BRU, be it 777 on the current route and/or a 2nd EWR flight and/or IAH-BRU.

Yes, Sao Paulo; I mentioned this before, but TAM has now 2 daily flights GRU-CDG (arrivals & departures around the same time) & one daily flight GIG-CDG. They codeshare on a number of AF flights. However, it is now official that TAM will become a Star Alliance member on 13th May, so those AF codeshares will have to disappear eventually. My guess is that one of the two GRU-CDG flights could move to BRU and TAM could then codeshare with SN’s European flights instead.

Other potential destinations on the ‘wants/hope list' of BRU might be IAH, BOS, JNB, SFO, LAX.

When can we celebrate the opening of the new terminal & the extension of the A-Pier?

The list as I see it, not in a specific order:

Tokyo (Star Hub)
Houston (Star Hub) Access to Middel America
Los Angeles (Star Hub) or San Francisco (Star Hub)
Sao Paolo (Future Star Hub) Access to South America
Singapore (Star Hub) Access to South Asia and Oceania
Bangkok (Star Hub) Access to South Asia and Oceania
Johannesburg (Star Hub) To complement African Hub Offer
Seoul (Star Hub)
Lagos To complement African Hub Offer
Boston
Hong Kong
Dubai
Miami or Dallas

I don't say they'll all materialise, but especially some of the Star Hubs could be possible I think.

Cheers,

Stij

I don't think that list is so secret, I'm pretty sure I've read a thread on this board (it could be months or even years ago) that detailed this, or had a link to an internal PowerPoint that leaked to the outside World.

It would be absolutely fabulous to have Tokyo back on the map and as a daily from the start, moreover operating on one of the most modern jets at the time: the Boeing 787.

If they have good introductory fares it could be the opportunity to make a less hassle hop to Japan to meet some friends who are currently expat there and have plenty of room to spare.

Let us hope BRU realises its wishlist will ONLY become real thanks to its home carrier and STAR allliance partner brussels airlines, so let us hope they will have the courage to concentrate back on what can make them a lot of money (i.e: premium pax and long haul) and forget about rolling out the red carpet for low cost competitors to its main customer and most important partner airline?

When exactly I don't know but I think two extra gates are planned at the Eastern tip of the A-Pier, both at 45° angle, one next to 172 (then 174) and one next to 169 (then 171).
The new apron will extend out on the existing GSE parking and probably TWY K will be scrapped as well.

This will make a total of 7 positions for wide-bodies on the T-gates end.

Nice, and badly needed anyhow.

Cheers.

Well, I was of course only half-joking about the much discussed western extension of the A Pier etc.

Interesting, and indeed badly needed in the near future if SN continues to expand to AFI before any major expansion of the A-pier etc has been completed!

Jetairfly is the first Belgian airline who will receive the B787 but it will be not the first one who will use it to/from BRU.

I know, but I've always thought they would be the first operator into BRU :) After all, accept for ANA soon, there are no more early takers of the 787 which operate or will operate into BRU before JAF accepts theirs, accept for Continental, but they'll probably fly the T7 into BRU by then...
