Hello,

Yes, Guy Daems passed away last monday.
He was one of the best captain I have known.
It was a really nice person to work with.
I will never forget his funny speeches o/b, his explanations, his smile.

Have a safe flight to heaven ...

One of my very first flights at Sabena Guy Daems was my captain, I remember very well: during our NCE-BRU flight a passenger wanted to buy us a bottle of whisky during the duty free sales. Guy Daems refused but the passenger insisted and gave him 1000 BEF spending money, where Guy took us to the Pitchers !

And of course I will always remember him for his spotting enthusiasm and his love for his work at Sabena and Thomas Cook!

A few months ago I had a chat with him where he seemed very positive for the future, today I am very sad that his illness took over

May he rest in peace! My thoughts are with his family and friends!

Nowadays there are many real life pilots supporting the desktop flight simulators, but 15 years ago, it was a totally different story. Guy Daems was one of the very first to do so.

I Think many pilots of my generation who grew up with earlier models of the MS Flightsim (FS3, FS4, and FS5/98) will never forget the Sabena 737-300 model of Jan Moons for FS5. It was tested by Guy Daems and he provided real life data on how to fly the 737. Back then, if you wanted some realism, that model was a must-have in your aircraft collection.

Flown hundreds of hours with that aircraft... thanks Guy!

My deepest respects for this great personality who helped to increase my passion for aviation in so many ways...

For me the best cockpit photographer out there...for many one of the greatest pilots we ever met.

His work, passion and personality will be remembered and honoured by many aviation enthousiasts in Belgium who had the chance to know him in person or had a chat with him next to one of our runways at BRU.

His soul will never leave Belgian Aviation...that's for sure!

Thank you in so many ways Guy, for you the sky is certainly not the limit!

I very clearly remember this, it was also my first contact with "real pilot input" regarding the FDE. That B733 model of Jan was a small breakthrough, thanks to Guy's input and his thumbrules for the 737-300.
