Re: Replacement of SN's Avro RJ fleet

on the site of flightglobal, you can read that BAE is going to work together with Mitsubishi on their MRJ :

although I don't think that SN is gonna wait for that type of aircraft. First delivery in 2014. ANA and holding company already ordered a significant amount of A/C

B.air's Avrojets with their 2-3 configuration are, indeed, very comfortable. However, they need to be replaced because they burn to much fuel. If I memory serves me right, an Avrojet burns approximately twice as much kerosen per passenger as an A319 or A320.
I, too, would favour Embraers to replace the Avrojets. Their only problem (if it is a problem, I am not sure) is that they won't offer a free middle seat in Business class, but then economy pax will be delighted, because there are no middle seats. You cannot have it all.
And don't forget that Embraer not only offer the EMB170-195 range, but also EMB 135-145s with a capacity of 37 to 50 pax, which could be ideal for thinner routes.
I don't know if the EMB135-145 and the EMB170-195 offer any commonality for pilots. If they do, it would be an additional argument to opt for these aircraft.
If there is no commonality at all, perhaps the new 50-seater ATR could be considered for short and thin routes, although nobody likes to fly a turboprop, because, indeed, they are less comfortable, but that is namely because manufacturers and airlines configure them with "uncomfortable" seating patterns.
If, for instance, the Q400, instead of the usual 2-2 configuration with 18 rows (I think) and 72 pax, were configured with a 1-2 pattern over 17 rows, an airline could still carry some 50 pax while offering comfortable seating instead of a sardin can.
In favor of quality air travel.

very interesting arguments, Air Key West. I had a look at the seat configuration for the E-175 and E-190 with Air Canada. Maybe this cold solve 'the problem'. It's a 1+2 configuration. Maybe they can leave one seat (out of the two) open.
E-175 : http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Air_Ca ... er_175.php
E-190 : http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Air_Ca ... er_190.php

or Lufthansa's E195 (you can see clearly on the configuration that one seat out of two is left open :

Also your argument for Embraer's smaller A/C 135-145 is a good alternative for routes with lower load factors...

The E-Jets (170 to 195) usually have a 2+2 configuration from the front to the back. And yes, they are very comfortable from a pax point of view (compared to the smaller Embraers 145 or the CRJs the E-Jets are like paradise :) ), they feel like a "real aircraft" ;)

What LH does in Business in the E-Jets (like in all their aircrafts with a 2+2 configuration) they leave one seat empty on each side, so no free middle seat (as there is no middle seat ...), but in fact a 1+1 configuration with a 2+2 seat plan, so every pax in Business has 2 seats for him/herself. However, this is only done by LH themselves (Cityline), the other LH regional partners or other partners (Cirrus, eurowings, Air Dolomiti and others) have their own policies regarding the business class seating in 2+2 aircrafts.

I would imagine it will be 170/190s. Very economical a/c to operate too. Btw, even flying on the RJs you often get "bussed" to or from the a/c at BRU because of the aircraft's crossover from a Schengen flight to a non-schengen flight (or v.v.). Very inconvenient!

it depends on the airort. I prefer to get "bussed" in FRA for example to being offloaded at A40 or A42. Same in BRU; instead of arriving at A70 or so it is much mire convenient to "take the bus" to the bus gate, it feels like 1km less to walk 8-)

British Aerospace 146-200 OO-DJJ has been sold. There were also talks about a second BAE 146 that was sold. Does anyone know the registration of this 2nd sold A/C?

Replacement SN-fleet

Post by diminbru »

OO-VEJ and OO-VBR left the fleet recently. OO-LTM will leave the SN-fleet once Korongo will start up. Does anyone know what will happen with OO-VEK?
As this A/C has the same age as the others that have left the fleet.
I suppose that most of these B737's will be replaced by A319's. Which will be a good thing for the LF because the A319's has a smaller configuration.

Some time ago I have read on this forum that TNT was interested in buying some of the Bae 146-200's. Does anybody has more news?

i think there's already a thread about this but hey...

the whole boeing fleet will be gone (not the first few years tho)
for VBR and VEJ, they now have SSC on the way (in the star alliance livery)
and in june another A319 will join the fleet.

the Bae's, DJH is ready for departure to it's new owner, and about tnt, i haven't heard anything of that anymore, but another 146 might indeed be sold for what i've heard
