Re: Ryanair comes back to Ostend !

small correction, the article said 49,99 euro.
I just checked the Jetairfly website:
in the first week of implementation, beginning July , my cheapest possibility is, after all the goodies added, 199.98 euro. return. (who would like to stay in Malaga ? :) )
What did we expect, high season.. :x
But...credit given, wait, I did another check in September ( when I, you and most of all the rest of us can not travel because of work ) and came to a 50 + 49.99 + goodies = 109.98 euro.
So, that is dammed cheap from Ostend. Without the subsidies that Ryanair would get from the regional jokermen.

Comparison:
with Ryanair from Charleroi it would cost me 166.13 euro beginning of July and 117.57 euro in September.
Message : do we really need to subsidize this company Ryanair if we can fly for approximately the same amount to some holiday destinations. And don't come with that crap of bringing big spending Spanish tourists to Bruges. Who would be very welcome, but with the actual crisis I think that Spanish have other things on their heads.

Heum sorry but I could book a flight at the end of june with Ryanair for 45,18 EUR and at the end of September for 86,13 EUR. Prices you will never find at JAF me thinks. Also, have you ever stopped to consider how many belgian people work for ryanair? More then 200 pilots alone in CRL, most of them Belgian. Also a large amount of Cabin Crew. They also invest in belgian economy just by living here. Jaf wil never make EBOS a base where as ryanair could, over time, base of to 14 aircraft there!! How about tourism then?

no, you are wrong: the subsidies are mandatory the same, if any company complies with the requests(*) for obtaining the subsidies: that's the law. (so, if Jetair opens OST-AGP before FR, they will obtain the subsidies)

(*) as for example: a new destination with minimum numbers of flights a week, etc, ,....

I tried to compare apples with apples.
You choose completely different dates. ( end of June is very much different than 5th July ! And the end of September is also different than the first week of September )
So, you ask for it: I flew SN Brussels Airlines Brussels - Berlin Tempelhof for...1 euro, all included, even taxes.

What the employment numbers concerns I was answered with data which are very positive and would defend a 1 million investment from the region. Except if it was not for the same airline who came here to Ostend already and left again. Fact. Where I am not happy about to be honnest.
Question: under which tax regulation are all those pilots and FA working? ( do they pay income taxes in Belgum? Under which labour contracts? I do hope not under Irish law or something with a Swiss address on it. Because that means when those people will get older, the rest of the Belgian tax payers will have to pay for their pensions, health care, social support.

If Ryanair really want to be alone on that destination, they will cut down the prices as much and as often as necessary, they can do it - and then, bye bye Jetairfly !

some subsidies (from the regional government ) but not from private organisations

Exactly ;)

We will have the 'final' hangover and not MoL and his stockholders.
Both filled their pockets with our tax money!

So,what is Jetairfly waiting for? Next to Malaga they should start flying this summer also to the Costa Brava (Gerona or BCN)from Ostend, and catch the subsidies before Ryanairs nose.

Now THAT would be a joke. Jetairfly getting susbsidies for charging passengers sky high fares.

Does anyone have any news on whether Ryanair is coming to Ostend or not? I travel to Ostend several times per year with Ryanair from Glasgow Prestwick via Charleroi. This route appears to be getting axed because there are no flights available from November onwards. I did read a few months ago that Ostend and Bruges politicians wanted routes from Ostend to Manchester and Glasgow. What are the chances of that happening with Ryanair or even another airline I wonder?

Hey 3Toons,
Nice to read that there is already potential demand for airtravel between Glasgow and Ostend/Bruges.
Of course a lot more passengers are needed to fill a 737 ,several times a week ,all year long.(and at least during 3 years to obtain the subsidies)
Would Edinburgh -Ostend also be an alternative for you?
Or Glasgow/Edinburgh-Manston(KIA)-Ostend?
Flybe is introducing flights from EDI(operational) and Manchester to Manston(sept2010). If they extend those routes to Ostend that would be interesting for both travellers in Scotland/Kent/south London wishing to visit Western-Belgium/Northern France/Zeeland aswell as people from this area visiting the UK-cities (with connecting possibilities in Manchester)

Yes, Edinburgh - Ostend would be an alternative for me. I live about ten minutes from Glasgow Prestwick, forty five minutes from Glasgow International and around one hour fifty minutes from Edinburgh Airports. Obviously the most convenient airport would be Glasgow Prestwick but I would be prepared to make the journy to Edinburgh Airport if there was a flight from there to Ostend. If you hear of any news regarding a route from Ostend to Prestwick, Glasgow or Edinburgh I would be grateful if you would let me know.
Thanks
James

Ostend airport doesn't exist anymore since the first appearance of Ryanair some years ago.
Just at the moment that everybody bent over for MoL and changed the name of "Luchthaven Oostende" into "Airport Ostend-Bruges " , Ryanair left Flanders again.
I think that MoL was very angry that the airport was not renamed "Bruges-East" :)

But no, no further news about Ryanair at Oostende. ( which means Eastend ... , what a soap opera )
Ryanair announced all kind of new routes, but Flanders was left out of it.
Would the elections have to do with it? Seriously. Maybe MoL likes local friendly administrations, and he wanted to see what the future would bring.

Nothing happens.

Typical for the Flemish Government: NO Airport strategy (also not for BRU).

Anything further than the Church Tower is problematic.

Meanwhile in CRL....

Meanwhile Meridiana's DC 8 will leave the airport... and OST dies a bit with it.

The deal was done for the routes this autumn basically as reported in the press , however delays in having it signed by the flemish government means that it will not happen this year , on the plus side everything was agreed .
