TAP pilots announce 6-days strike
After the LH pilots strike, now it's time for the TP pilots...
A small summary in English:
TP pilots announce a 6 day strike starting 26 March until 31st March (included)
All flights will be affected, except FNC flights, out of solidarity with Madeirans after the floods.
TP reckons six days of strike will cost them €30m...
The TAP administration offered a 1.8% payrise, which is already a violation of the economic austerity plan presented by the government, yet the pilots say it isn't enough.

Re: TAP pilots announce 6-days strike
add some BA action and it will be very chaotic in European airports.
Re: TAP pilots announce 6-days strike
I'm sorry but I don't really understand all these strikes. It only make it whorse. As said by some ministers in the UK, this BA strike can be the end for the company (as the Sabena strike was also the thing that speeded up the bankruptcy of Sabena).
But with TAP it's even worse, they get a payrise (and they can be happy with that, as Portugal has it difficult these days) but they want more??? They want to destroy the company or what.
I don't see SN people do that, because a lot of them are ex-Sabeniens and they know what they can destroy with a strike.

Re: TAP pilots announce 6-days strike
If 1 strike can bring down a large company, than there is fundamentally something wrong with that company.
Sabena was not brought down by one or some strikes at the end of the saga. Sabena was cut off its life support machine ( government subsidies ) after many years of proof that it was not survivable as a real company instead of a semi state organisation.

Re: TAP pilots announce 6-days strike
The strike at the end of Sabena was to much. From the moment they announced they would strike I knewed they would go bankrupt, if they didn't strike they would be bankrupt also but later. Maybe then there was more time to find a solution.regi wrote:If 1 strike can bring down a large company, than there is fundamentally something wrong with that company.![]()

And indeed, if a strike can bring down a large company there are ofcourse fundementally problems. And that's just a reason not to strike. I remember me a British aviation specialist told to the BBC that he is warning th BA people. He said they have to see what happened with Sabena, both company's are/were extremely weak (althoug Sabena was worse). What is the best solution, strike with the risk to destroy the company or just accept the plans to save money.
I'm really not for strikes in cases like this. When a company is making money or not in such a whorse condition a strike is ok (and even verry good) but not in these cases.

It happens now a lot that employees are put under pressure "if you don't agree to change the contract your job is in danger".MR_Boeing wrote:The strike at the end of Sabena was to much. But we have heard this song too much with the experience of betrayal. Look at Opel. Many people blame the unions to be too harsh and endanger the survival possibilities of the plant. But nobody asks what happened with the profit that GM made untill some years ago. Profit that was made possible with state subsidies here in Belgium for the latest state of the art plate pressing street. When that new installation was announced, the message said clearly it would guarrantee the survival of Opel. Straight lies.
The unions have the full right - sorry: obligation to their members - to drag most out of it and not believe 1 word of the employer anymore.
The contracts were signed years ago. And when the economy goes down, the employers want to change the contract. Sorry, that is bad managment. Those contracts with salary scales , flexability should have been put in the original contracts. If the managers use this economical crisis as an excuse it proves that they are bad managers because they did not calculated this in.
You want a big saving? Renegotiate the contracts of the middle managers. Storm will brake loose.
Re: TAP pilots announce 6-days strike
Air France Cabin Crew announces as well a strike for 28th March on European haul.
Re: TAP pilots announce 6-days strike
the good luxury days are over in aviation, live with it!

No, it is just a part of a proces going on.cnc wrote:the good luxury days are over in aviation, live with it!
Employees don't agree anymore with changes to the contracts under the treat of being fired, or even closure of the company. They don't believe it anymore.
The managers should be happy that the workers still obey the rules of engagement. ( that strikes must be announced )
Next step are wild cat strikes. And that point is very close, now that BA tries to set up strike breaking actions.
Imagine you are an airline employee. The worst is ...that you get fired. So what ? You get an unemployment fee. You take some weeks off to think about your life and you apply for another job. Plenty of work out there. ( as an example I show figures what Belgium concerns, off topic with BA and TAP, I know. The VDAB website shows 63,135 vacancies today for Flanders alone , and 63 jobs especially at airports ) If you get fired in Belgium, you can also follow specific training courses with your unemployment fee intact and some extra's just to be willing to follow the course. Courses from some weeks up to a year, all on the cost of the Belgian State.
For some people it will be difficult , certainly if they work already a long time at the same place. But for other people it means a new and bright future sometimes in a completely different environment.
I don't have the right to judge about the feelings of the people involved. But what happened in our family with redundancies showed that a better life afterwards is possible.
