We are already being served with the bigger Boeing 767-400. It is true CO can use more capacity on some days or periods.
The smallest plane CO can fly into BRU is the B757, so maybe the market is, at this moment, nog big enough to have that much seats extra on either a daily or a weekly base. Now you can say CO could ad a second flight on certain days, but maybe there is no enough spare equipment available.

CO usually has a huge utilization rate on their equipment so they'll have to be very creative in adding routes. They have some (I guess 2) T7's on order and have a lot of 787's (11 -800's and 14 -900's) in the pipeline so once these start arriving they could free up some T7's currently used for very long haul flights that can be shifted to (maybe) BRU.

Adding those Dreamliners to the fleet also will cause the shifting of other types of equipment. A freed up T7 can be used on a former 764 route, which in turn can be used to upgrade 762 and 752 routes which makes more equipment available.

Some rumours excisted CO would buy or lease some second hand A-market T7's for the Micronesia operations which in turn would free up some 767-400 (the 256-seaters i.s.o. CO TATL 235-seated 764's) which could be refitted to join the rest of the 767-400 fleet, but I haven't anything about those rumours lately.

CO is very conservative in buying extra capacity and upgrading routes, they don't have the luxury other companies seem to have in adding capacity to a certain destination.

The second CO flight to EWR, with B757-200, is sitting in the pipeline and it is just probably a matter of time before we hear something official.

The slots have definitely been requested and CO is holding a departure slot for a late morning departure from Brussels (somewhere between 11am and 12n) to EWR.

As stated above, the potential is there and especially since the feeder from SN is really going strong (Star Alliance), with big digits of connecting pax already on the morning CO flight (and this without codeshares from SN).

CO's biggest problem is lack of equipment; it is already pushing its long haul fleet utilization to the max and is currently retrofitting its long haul fleet with a new business class product, taking some of the 777 and 757 regularly out of service for a while.

I don't expect the 777 back in BRU soon, since it is assigning all its 777's to ultra long routes (HKG, TLV, BOM, DEL, PVG,...), as well as LHR and FRA.

Amazing how Oslo gets new and more connections.
Recently THAI went daily non-stop to BKK.

How come that BRU with such a big catchment area cannot get THAI to BKK??

Time for BRU management to wake up.

Hoping for a revolution once *A goes full speed.

So you think that Brussels Airport has no contact with TG? Hmm, you would be surprised.

*A and Lufthansa. *A is very good for Brussels Airport because more long haul can be reached even as medium long haul. But Lufthansa is and stay a competitor of Brussels Airlines.

The latest example of Lufthansa: they updraded the cooperation with ET. This means that ET will decrease their presence at Brussels airport with two flights. And that was my question of yesterday in this topic. I received the info in meantime.
All the flights of ET will go via CDG and this 5 times a week. Today or in the past we had flights via FRA AND CDG.

ET will join *A and they are going to decrease their flights at BRU. It had also negative things you know.

Well, BRU management, let the surprise come.
THAI, ANA,...

Ultimately *A will make BRU a real international airport.

Does BRU management already understand this??

Well, not soo surprising. There is more or less no home carrier in Oslo offering long-haul (SAS routes nearly everything via its CPH hub and even there long haul offers are limited). So free room for foreign carriers. THAN, Norway is a quite wealthy country, people have high purchasing power, wages are quite high (and living costs as well :? ), plus in winter it is dark for several months (well, hm, ok, more or less ;) ). So no surprise there must be a big market for flights to Thailand etcetera especially during the winter season ... With SAS being *Alliance as well it is no problem for Thai and Continental to convince quite a few connecting pax as well from Sweden or even Finland or the UK to go via Oslo

SAS will introduce a fifth daily flight to BRU and this from CPH as from April. Aircraft will be a CRJ900.
The flight will arrive on 12.50h and depart on 13.25h on weekdays.

Windjet will fly again to BRU from Forli and this two times a week. Flights between mid May and mid September.

Could this signal the beginning of a codeshare agreement between SN and SK? It would make a lot of sense...

I don't know if they will do that. Some airlines (codesharing) are using SN and their metal for flights to CPH. Those are EY, TP, KM, KF and AA (AA will end their codeshare agreement).

Both are flying multiple times a day between both cities.

United Airlines:

Effective, April 06,2010:

UA950: LAS-BRU
UA951: BRU-LAS

Equipment change in IAD.

BRU-IAD-BRU: B763
IAD-LAS-IAD: A320

So it is not really a new destination from BRU, but merely a continuation of an excisting (IAD) flight?

Can you see if SN will codeshare on this flight (IAD-LAS-IAD)?

SN hasn't announced any codeshares on any US carriers at the moment... Although S10 will start in about 2 months no details are available...

I assume they are going to codeshare all the way to LAS but it's still waiting...

Strange; it seemed to me that SN announced their partnership in following press release :

In the press release about the new United flight, you can read this.

“We welcome the decision of United Airlines to launch this new transatlantic service to Chicago”, says Brussels Airlines co-Managing Director Bernard Gustin. “We are very much looking forward to our partnership with United Airlines who operates from Brussels already a daily flight to Washington Dulles. More news about our cooperation will follow soon. This excellent news is another example of the many benefits we will be able to offer ourpassengers once we will join the Star Alliance in December.”
But that news is still not released and you can not book with SN flights to ORD or IAD either.

Some news:

-> SN will add an extra daily morning flight to Athens (ATH) during July and August. The flight will depart on
7am at Brussels airport and the aircraft will be the next new A319 of SN. Aegean Airlines will codeshare
on this flight.

-> Lufthansa will move its ops and management department from their address in Brussels to b.house,
former Sabena-house. "Partners under one roof."

-> SN will fly, as from the end of March, 7 daily flights to Geneve (every two hours).

-> Surprise: Icelandair will only fly 3 months between Brussels and Reykjavik! The first flight will start on 4 June till medio september (13 September). Very strange if you asked me but according to the sales and marketing Belgium of Icelandair are the bookings ok.

Wow, 7 daily flights to GVA. These flights are performing really good I think. :P Altough it seems that they fly more smaller aircraft than past summer, so almost the same seat capacity (some days more, some days less).
Athens is not really a suprise for me, because SN upgrade their ATH route most of the times in the bussy summer months. Although it's a good thing.

And indeed, I am suprised about Icelandair. :? I hope they will relaunch the flight eventually.

Received a flight change notification today for a BRU-TXL flight on the first Friday of August: It seems that the last flight of the day (SN2591) was cancelled and I was rebooked on the earlier one (SN2589). Is this cancellation just random, a reduction during August or a more systematic capacity reduction?

More an attempt to stop EasyJet who goes 3/daily. GVA will be an important battle between BruAir and Easy, SN cant afford to loose!
