MR_Boeing wrote: Like Atlantis said, CO said that they will not upgrade anymore to AMS in the comming years and possibly even downgrade. They said that the Star-hubs are way more important now and they will get the expension for the comming years. So if you ask me, it's only a metter of time when CO will upgrade their BRU operations.
Or FRA, or MUC, or ZRH,...

Continental will fly to a Star hub where there is sufficient feed. If they feel the time is right to expand at BRU, they will. Right now, it doenst seem the market is there...

The first step will probably be the introduction of the second EWR flight, although SN getting closer with UA and eyeing their own flight to JFK, it doenst seem they will feed much into CO, although they'll temporarily loose their NYC link when the c/s with AA ends...

Personally I don't believe in a IAH-BRU flight. I just don't think the market is there. Maybe an Asian Star carrier could fly from XXX via BRU to IAH and CO can codeshare on the transtatlantic leg, but that's pretty much it.

I've always thought that continental did a good job at brussels, because of the lots of corporate contracts they had from & to brussels...

To have BOS worked, you need corporate contracts. Sabena had some very lucrative corporate contracts back in the 90's-2000, most of them from chemical and pharmaceutical companies. But yes BOS makes sense (6th A330 permitting of course).

JFK is also on the cards. JFK will be a very missed link as it attracts some interesting AFI connecting traffic. A traffic that EWR won't be able to attract. And I can tell you that SN is really missed by many customers in the USA.

I think that SN could get again some nice corperate contracts with some lobbying (maybe with the help of LH). Belgium is a "center" of chemical (Antwerp) and pharmaceutical companies, so I suppose a lot of these companies would be happy about a non-stop SN flight to Boston.

What about Hong Kong? It will be a smart move i think. They need to fly where the money is ;)

HKG is known to have good potential from BRU but starting it on your own with the investment that it requires and without any partner on the other side must be too risky to take the chance.

Had SN joined oneworld, I could have seen the possibility of SN and CX working out something, but under the current variables, BKK or even SIN are more likely than HKG.

SN now no longer has to offer HKG via Chinese or Indian connections, they can offer several short 1-stop connections via FRA and maybe also MUC and ZRH. And eventually via BKK one day, one of the reasons why I'd favor BKK over SIN for the SE Asia link with a Star Alliance partner.

Yes it's too risky without a partner. Sometimes they need to take some risk. they need to grow a little bit... :)
you are right, the best solution is to codeshare on LH to HKG. i'm sure that the market is there for leisure and business. ;)

If SU can operate 2 daily flights, will SN be allowed to follow suit? A second daily SN flight was planned several months ago, but was never allowed by the Russians.

I take it this time the flight will operate year round, iso being discontinued over winter?

Any idea about the type of plane?
752 or 762? I'd suppose the A330 is way too big for the BRU flight, especially since it's operated daily....

Would be cool to see this operate with an SN codeshare too, BTW. ;-)

What about Shanghai-Brussels with HU? They applied for it but no news till now...
They want to launch Vienna, Rome too. Will they take their new a330 delivery soon?

It will be year round and they will use their B757-200. I think that we will see from time to time their B762 during the summer.

It was CAAC, Chinese authorities, who announced that Hainan wants to fly 5 times a week from PVG to BRU. The strange thing is that there is still no authorisation. Maybe next winter ('10-'11). We will see.

On the site Africanflyer we can read that Ethiopian Airlines will add a fifth weekly flight to Paris on Thursdays. The flight will then continue to Brussels. But Ethiopian is already flying daily to BRU. Someone with more info?

There are two destinations in Europe that are served by CO but they can use more capacity. Brussels and Oslo (maybe more, but CO mentionned a time ago this two). Just saw that CO will upgrade the daily route from EWR to Oslo (now daily 752) to 10 weekly (also with B752). But still no BRU upgrades!! :(
