What is the difference between boarding a Ryanair at Charleroi or an easyJet at Brussels ?
Taking a flight at Brussels is much better for health, as you have to walk more than 1 KM, climb steps, etc - whereas at Charleroi you just walk some 200 metres at the most ...

Finally some time to post the new August traffic figures.

AUGUST

In August, Brussels Airport welcomed 1.741.000 pax or a decrease with -4,4% when we compare this with the same month last year.

Intra-EU: 1.029.000: -5,9%
Extra-EU: 712.000: -2,1%


MOVEMENTS

In August there were 19.574 movements on Brussels Airport or a decrease with -5,4%

No cargo figures available due to incorrect cargo figures the past few months. They are going to be corrected retroactive.

Brussels Airport handled 1,623,400 passengers in September, a decrease by 7.6% on pcp.

In September Brussels Airport welcomed 1.623.000 pax or a decrease with -7,6% when we compare this with the same month last year.

When the figures are correct now, Brussels Airport handled 35.200 ton of cargo or a decrease with -30,7% when we compare this with the same month last year.



MOVEMENTS

In September there were 21.002 movements on the airport or a decrease with -9,4% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

As I mentioned already, 29.976 ton of cargo was not included in the figures between January - September.

These are now the correct cargo figures YTD:

Full freighter: 166.538 ton (-34,7%)
Integrator: 96.265 ton (-44%)
Pax flights: 69.617 ton (-24,2%)

This means that till today Brussels Airport handled 332.419 ton of cargo or a decrease with -35,9%
Brussels Airport is still the number one cargo airport in Belgium.

Indeed, but take a look in the other topic about LGG. There I posted that BRU was 'missing' +- 30.000 ton during January and August in their figures. Also ACI had no correct figures for BRU.

It is not that important. The main goal is to keep and attract new cargo players. Brussels Airport has to promote the new Brucargo West site.

By the way, it is not only important for Brucargo West as such, but also for just developing the actual Brucargo zone as an entity. Not only growing as such, but growing by respecting environmental issues, noise emissions, operating times, etc. And by doing this, it will grow taking care of also growing handling agents, forwarders, etc.
Both passenter airlines and cargo airlines benefit from being all based at Brussels Airport, an airport where both belly and FF can be found, interlining is possible, etc.
All this together shows the importance of freight also for an airport as BRU.

I agree with you. On top of that it remains important to compare apples with apples. Integrator traffic is freighter traffic, although a whole different type of product.

The full freighter traffic figures, excluding integrator traffic, needs to be compared. Since it is this traffic that creates the largest social economic benefits to the area. It is mainly this type of traffic that fuels interlining between full freighter.

If airports are compared on full freighter traffic, excl. integrator traffic, BRU remains the number one in Belgium, even when total freight figures drop under the Liege ones.

The full freighter traffic figures, excluding integrator traffic, needs to be compared. Since it is this traffic that creates the largest social economic benefits to the area.

In LGG, the integrator part has created an enormous quantity of jobs with about 50% of LGG tonnage.
In fact, I believe it's the full cargo that brings a rather small economic benefit ...

Some could argue also that LGG would be the first without the belly cargo of BRU, but it's wrong of course. All kind of cargo generate revenue for the airport and create jobs. Everything should be taken into account.

it's not so important which will be the biggest, it's just a little game between forum members because we like different airport. In the end, we can say that we are very lucky to have in belgium 2 major cargo airports in the top10.

In October Brussels Airport received 1.498.700 pax or a decrease with -5,8% when we compare this with the same month last year.
Long haul operations did already a good job thanks to Jet Airways, Etihad and the North-American carriers.
Intra-EU is still a big problem: less charters, all carriers to/from BRU reduced their capacity and Brussels Airlines was still flying 10% less flights then previous.


Intra-EU: 947.000 pax: -8,2%
Extra-EU: 552.000 pax: -1,3%


CARGO

In October, Brussels Airport handled 38.700 ton of cargo or a decrease with -22,5% when we compare this with the same month last year.


MOVEMENTS

In October there were 20.100 movements on the airport or a decrease with -10,3% when we compare this with the same month last year. Less Intra-EU and full cargo flights.

In November Brussels Airport welcomed 1.242.000 pax or a small decrease with -1,5% when we compare this with the same month last year.

Extra-EU did very well with strong increasing figures when we compare this with last year. This is thanks to Jetairfly (new long haul services), and charter flights to Turkey and North Afrika. The Extra-EU flights saw almost 20.000 pax more then November last year.

Extra-EU: 462.000 pax: +4,2%

In November, Brussels Airport handled 39.400 ton of cargo or a decrase with -19,8% when we compare this with the same month of last year. Note that Cargo B was still flying in that period

In November there were 17.441 movements on Brussels Airport or a decrease with -6,26% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

I've not found a official press message of Brussels Airport, but the most newspapers already published the most important numbers for 2009.
In the month December, there was still a decrease of 1.1% in the amount of pax for BRU. But the problem was the snow, without the snow problems they had around 1% more passengers than in december 2008.
For whole 2009, there were 16,99 million passengers a 8.2% decrease compared to 2008. The freigth numbers are down with 32% for 2009 (450 000 tons)and in December the freight numbers were still more than 10% down compared to 2008. The main reason for that is Cargo B.

Brussels Airport expects a increase again in the amount of pax and freight in 2010. Pax, mainly because of SN/Star, there are already new carriers/routes comming and they expect more.
And "De tijd" said that there is a new freigther costumer on his way for this year! Has someone any idea about that cargo company that will start BRU operations?
