No deal on the 200 737 with Boeing???

Typical FR: they love playing poker it seems. Either Boeing backs down, apologizes and throws in another discount, or FR makes a quiet deal with Boeing.

Either way, a deal will happen.

Does anyone really believe FR will just stop growing and start paying dividends to its shareholders etc.? A company like FR only knows one way, and that's up. If they stop growing, their whole business model will have to be modified drastically.

It seems that Ryanair is more and more targetting Brussels Airlines' destinations. Competition at its best! Let the best one win!
If one may call it competition...
Maybe, but aren't they in totally different markets now? FR for pure low cost flying while SN will have to reshuffle operations to become a full service carrier again, relying on Star Alliance?
There is still alot of overlap in leisure and business markets. CRL is seeing more and more ties and costumes.
Many customers who are travelling with FR could have travelled with SN.
For instance FCO-BRU is in close competition with CRL-CIA. FR snaps away many VFR and leisure customers while creating new demand for people who did not initially intend to fly. Many people form Wallonia who had to travel all the way up to BRU for a flight can now simply travel to CRL to take their cheaper flight.

If CRL manages to secure a direct train link Brugge-Gent-Brussels-CRL, Antwerp-Brussels-CRL, Liege-Namur-CRL and Lille-Kortrijk-CRL, FR would not have enough even with 20 based aircraft.

FR has revolutionised the way people travel in Europe. The routine family visit at the local museum during the school holidays has become a citytrip to Madrid or Rome... without much compromise for the wallet.
Erasmus students can afford to see their families during weekends.

But to say the whole truth, FR's expansion at CRL is also induced by the fact that they have an overcapacity of aircraft. In the actual crisis they can't find buyers who'd pay an interesting enough price to sell their B738's and they're still taking deliveries. Instead of letting their aircraft sit on the ground, FR is therefore expanding at many cities. They have also been pulling out of several cities recently, CRL is a stable and good base so definitely a good place to pull in excess capacity.

Good news for jobs, good news for the consumer, we'll see how it plays out long term.

The train connection is already decent imo.
The special rapid bus they have between the train station and the airport is really ok. it's a journey (train+bus) of only 1h30 from Liège, which is more or less the same than going to BRU (with a change either in Leuven or brussels-north).

Only a few people saw the potential of CRL, but it's there from the begining. Now we can enjoy :)

With all the pollution this implies... I don't really see that as a progress, and one day, we will be blamed...
taking an aircraft to go one week end in Madrid or Rome sounds insane for me, pollutionwise..
but that's another debate.

I can only be happy seeing CRL develop and getting more and more a/c based, but we all know the price to pay with Ryanair, and with them, nothing lasts unless...

This is good news! On way the to 5.000.000 Pax....
I have seen that 40% or so are from Flanders... They also like Ryanair prices, even if MOL is some kind of crook.

If all belgians make 100%, 34% of the pax are from Flanders, 25% from Brussels and 42% from Wallonia. But belgians are only 41% of the pax of CRL.

51 % of the pax are between 18 and 34 years old.

Since there is more and more destination out of CRL, I really think that starting a long range operation out of CRL would be a wise move from FR or other LCC carrier...To start with 2 330, one flying to Newark, the other one to Kinshasa...

Don't you think runway to short at CRL for long-haul aircrafts (mainly take-off at full load) ? ;)

Indeed, the runway need to be extended if CRL want to serve long-haul.

Stop talking about longhaul from CRL!
MOL himself stopped thinking about such operations :( due to the crisis, and forget it from his
career which will lasts only for another 3/4 years so I read in an interview on an irish site!
He's just thinking about another 200 737's!
Maybe he get some 330 for free with an order of 200 A319/320 ! ;)
In that case maybe but otherwise be happy with another 10 737's and let the longhaul for BRU !

Not an CRL fan ( too far away ) (prefer EIN) but this looks like reality!

Air Arabia Maroc is going to decrease its ops at CRL. As from 28 March '10 they are going to fly 3 times instead of 4 times to Casablanca.

Today MOL will be in FUE to announce 10 or 11 new routes. Among them CRL, 2x weekly. (--3---7)
