He he! MOL said "Brussels (Charleroi) is now the model for how efficient low cost airports should operate". The word of a connoisseur!

Hmm everyone its opinion but I have a deep respect for all the airports who said no to Ryanair. And if it is true that they want to fly from a second airport in Belgium, good luck to them.sn26567 wrote:He he! Atlantis, this was 2nd degree humour. I guess that as an administrator I should remain serious on this forum.

An airport that says no to Ryanair does so because it's not profitable, not as a matter of principle. It's just business. No cause for deep respect here.Atlantis wrote: I have a deep respect for all the airports who said no to Ryanair. If Ryanair wanted to fly to Ostend or Liège, the airports would be only too happy to negotiate with Michaêl O'Leary.
Ryanair has had flights from Ostend in the past, and has discontinued them because of a lack of passengers. Liège would be interesting because there is no curfew there, while there is one at Charleroi (between 2300 and 0630).

You are misinformed here. The reason why they left had nothing to do that.airazurxtror wrote:Ryanair has had flights from Ostend in the past, and has discontinued them because of a lack of passengers

And (at least?) one A/C will be based in EIN. The first one in the Netherlands.flightlover wrote:According to Luchtvaartnieuws.nl there will be one plane comming to CRL. Just wait and see I suppose.airbuske wrote:Rynair is planning to move some aircraft from Shannan to airports in the Benelux.
I'm curious if CRL will get some plane(s).

In the end we got better connections to the rest of europe than our own Brussels!
EIN = ANTWERP EAST

Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
This is not that LGG are not interested in low costs airlines or Ryanair not looking into LGG. Both CRL and LGG are under the same roof; this to say SOWAER (Société Wallone des Aéroports) Minister in charge is Mr Antoine (CDH).
It has been clear from the start: LGG do not touch to Ryanair, Cargo business should be LGG core business.
Having said that, we see that Ryanair are growing in MST (about 35 km from Liege) and have an important base in Eindhoven.
What I would most fear for CRL is Mr MOL himself. This guy could wake-up one morning and decide to reduce or close his ops. at BSCA. It would be a devastating situation for Charleroi Airport.
They are not in a win-win deal. This is more: empty your pockets to the last cent and shut your m***** . The other danger may come from BRU "National" who already converted his old terminal for Low Costs (without having requested proper building permit).

I don't think they realy needed to have one, since no real structural work has been done I guessliege-bierset wrote:...The other danger may come from BRU "National" who already converted his old terminal for Low Costs (without having requested proper building permit).

The chain of airports (distances from apt to apt by ViaMichelin) is as follows:liege-bierset wrote: It has been clear from the start: LGG do not touch to Ryanair, Cargo business should be LGG core business.
Having said that, we see that Ryanair are growing in MST (about 35 km from Liege) and have an important base in Eindhoven.
LIL - 115 km - CRL - 87 km - LGG - 52 km - MST - 43 km - EIN
I don't see why LGG could not get some FR flights. The big advantage is that there is no curfew at Bierset, the FR flights could be scheduled earlier than 0630 and later than 2300.
Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
If they take off during the night, they still have to land during the night somewhere ...
unless they fly "far" east ... who knows ...
But this debate is all political : it's been decided by the walloon gov that the 2 main cities in Wallonia will not compete against each other. It's very often like that in South Belgium : compensation for Charleroi despite the fact that it's a much less important city than Liège.
Anyway, for me the region is already packed of ryanair airport, i would not see the point to add one.
MST is already a strange sitation, in the middle of EIN and CRL, with the same destinations. What's the point really ?
Still, Liège could be a good option for long-haul low-fares new destinations if the region don't want to invest in the lengthening of CRL track..

Many airports used by Ryanair are open 24/24h : Marseille, Bergamo, Manchester, to name but a few.Acid-drop wrote:If they take off during the night, they still have to land during the night somewhere ...

to Flightlover :
I do not know building rules in Zaventem but here you even need a permit to install a Velux window on your roof or a garden shed next to your house. But I understand that BIAC have postponed the opening to 2011.
Regular companies already active in BRU are 100% against such a policy . Low Cost airlines = Lower charges ; regular Airlines = High charges (amongst the highest in Europe )
Rgds.
