For the moment, ORD is loaded with 763 and JFK with 752.

Anybody news about the upcomming Brussels Airlines / United Airlines co-operation?

I noticed that United AIrlines moved it's check-in to the Brussels Airlines counters 4.08-4.12 instead of the Star Alliance counters where they were before. Also United Airlines offers their customers the use of the Brussels Airlines lounge instead of the BMI Lounge (Star Gold) which was previously used...

Can this be a sign for an extensive co-operation on existing and maybe new routes between BRU and the US?

At this point no codeshares are loaded (yet) on the single route between BRU and IAD with UA.

At this point no codeshares are loaded (yet) on the single route between BRU and IAD with UA.

UA hubs are ORD, IAD, DEN, SFO and LAX. Of those hubs ORD and IAD are being served, I don't think DEN is an option for UA, and neither are SFO or LAX, accept in the future maybe...

I don't see UA operate a JFK-BRU rotation neither, nor does SN have the equipment to operate such flight on behalf of UA and Star Alliance.

So I wouldn't expect much extra operation of UA at BRU for the coming few years. Maybe ORD and IAD will be served seperately, with smaller equipment, but I guess that's roughly it.

We can exclude US Airways because every intercontinental flight goes via PHI.

CO -> maybe Houston

UA -> split up Washington and Chicago but both are already served to BRU, so not new. In the past United flew also from San Fransisco to BRU. Maybe they will pick up again this route?

But doesn't fly US Airways some flights to Europe from Charlotte, like LHR, CDG, FRA? But I don't really think they will fly Charlotte-BRU.
I hope it will be Houston by CO or San Francisco/ Los Angeles (non-stop, so not via LHR like this winter) by United and not a simple split up Chicago and Washington or a second EWR rotation, that would be also nice but I prefer a new destination. And if this rumor is wright, than it will be a new destination, so lets hope this will become truth. I think that 9 December will be a day where we can expect some new things (routes, codeshares ...).

Apart from te local (bussiness) traffic and the holiday-segment, perhaps as a transit-airport for destinations in Central- or South-America (and beyond)? Had AA not the intention some years ago to launch direct flights from BRU to MIA? The same question can be raised for DUS, an (in a certain way perhaps comparable) airport in the neighbourhood of BRU, which has a decent amount of weekly non-stop flights to MIA (Lufthansa, Air Berlin).

You can't compare these situations... Problem is no Star Alliance carriers have a hub in MIA so there is no onwards connection to South-America, CO f.e. uses IAH (and superhub EWR) for their Latin operations, that's also why CO and UA working together is a good thing i.s.o. CO and DL working together...
MIA-BRU-MIA rotation would solely depend on O&D-traffic or a minimal number of connecting pax at BRU and I seriously doubt the O&D traffic between MIA and BRU is very large.

LH is feeding MIA pax to their hub(s) in Germany while AB probably has a huge clientele for holiday flights. Maybe a 3/week operation could work, but then SN lacks the operational resources to do so and for an American *A-carrier it would mean ferry a plane from one of their hubs to MIA to fly to BRU and back and then ferry it back to their hub, so a very expensive operation which would make margins very thin, esp. since the majority of pax would be low yielding tourist pax.

Such destinations can become possible in the future, when SN is fully integrated into Star Alliance and has a significant long haul fleet, making it possible to operate three or four times a week (or daily) to destinations apart from the Star Alliance US hubs, on SN metal with the support from UA/CO/US/... The American carriers would prefer to fill their MIA-EWR/ORD/IAD/PHL flights with the Brussels bound pax over establishing a very expensive operation to perform a direct flight.

Expect US to codeshare on quite a number of European morning flights of SN as from next summer season...

Another proof the STAR membership of SN is a god's gift for BRU: after the daily AC flight to YUL, the airport has now won a year round service to PHL on US! And more will follow...

STAR alliance is going to be extremely important for BRU's future, so they better start pampering SN and its partners and forget about the low cost terminal indefinitely....
