STAR alliance, or Miles&More? As a firm date? Or a target date?

It would be great if indeed a firm date for their STAR alliance membership has been set, but then the communication department better wakes up and starts communicating on it, because right now, there's a lot of confusion amongst crew and pax, notably on all those routes which are in competition with future STAR partners....

The list of destinations where a schedule change is very likely due to the intergration of the SN timetable with that of the STAR partner is indeed huge, so I won't post it, but it's half the EU network! As we've seen with HEL, destinations could even be dropped alltogether, so it's URGENT SN start to communicate on the matter, because people are holding back bookings or even looking for alternatives right now because they want to be sure they'll still fly directly and at the time they want to, and not be rebooked through MUC or FRA or some other place and/or thus arrive too late at their destination of choice!

Summer is over guys, wake up! We're loosing pax over this....

STAR alliance. If I recall correctly it is mentioned once (in the little chat of our two CEO's  ) and a second time somewhere else in the magazine it's more vague and they talk about '..the end of this year...'

For M&M the date is already known for a few months.

Also, to take away the questions of the crew, as from monday 7th September there are crew briefings (3 x a day) on the STAR alliance and M&M in our crewroom, I think those will be interesting as well.

I'll pick up a copy of the inflight magazine and have a look next time I fly, because I have a feeling the devil will be in the detail (i.e. the exact wording).

For instance: the latest communication from SN talks about our move to terminal 2 in MAD (which is of a much lower standard than T4 which SN can currenly use, BTW) due to the upcoming STAR alliance membership, but it fails to mention a firm date for that membership...

To me it seems SN still is not sure it is indeed going to be OCT28; a fact that is also reflected in their pending time table for the winter season IMHO. There's a lot of integration going on with LH and its affliates, but hardly any with the STAR partners.

Definitely overdue already, because I know for a fact some business pax are actually avoiding to book on SN right now, because they know that the flights they'd want to book on might not be available any more by the time they need to fly and so they prefer to take their business elsewhere or just wait a bit.

Wonder if they'll be able to mention a date though during those sessions, because quite frankly that's the only thing needed. If it is not going to be OCT28, then better just say it, so people know the winter schedule is indeed going to be flown as published and there won't be any surprises with sudden re-routings via MUC, FRA or CPH like our pax who go to HEL after OCT12 (!) will experience in just over a month!
(and no formal communication has been made about this either....)

From the wording of the co-CEO's of SN in the editorial of their inflight magazine, it sounds as if SN will join STAR alliance somewhere in DECEMBER and not on OCTOBER 28th as was hoped.

"... our STAR membership by the end of the year..."

"... in December we'll be able to offer destinations globally..."

I have to disappoint you but when you have a look at the flightnumber of On Air then you will see that it is JOR123 en JOR124. These are the flight numbers of LCC Blue air.
BTW the arrival and departure time are also exactly the same.

I see what you mean, because I was thinking: BLQ and TRN both see multiple flights a day already... :?:

Stockholm is doing really well since SN swapped from ARN to BMA: I wonder how this is going to be solved once SN joins STAR and it starts codesharing with SK....

Yes, you are right!
But it is strange that the On Air website says the flight start's on 25 october?

Not only Cape town, but also Johannesburg will be offered by SN as from OCT25, all through FRA.

Flight numbers will be:
SN7206/7 for Johannesburg
SN7208/9 for Cape Town
SN7210/1 for Khartoum (via Jeddah on both ways, which will not be offered by SN)

In return, LH will codeshare on:
Brussels - Dakar - Banjul - Dakar - Brussels LH5430/1
Brussels - Monrovia - Abidjan - Brussels LH5436/7
Brussels - Abidjan - Monrovia - Brussels LH5438/9
Brussels - Douala LH5440
Douala - Brussels LH5441
Brussels - Yaounde LH5442
Yaounde - Brussels LH5443
Brussels - Bujumbura - Nairobi - Brussels LH5446/7
Brussels - Kigali - Nairobi - Brussels LH5448/9
Brussels - Entebbe - Nairobi - Brussels LH5452/3

Now also officially confirmed. SN will join STAR on the 9th of December.

In fact, it looks like it has been given the rather exceptional privilege to join on a date other than an IATA season change date, probably because LH wants them in asap and they can't make it by OCT28....

thanks for that - would you have a link of any sort to the official news ? Also , it is not unusual for an airline to join at a date other than an IATA season change date - from memory CA FM and MS all joined at "random" dates

Does this roundup mean Douala and Yaounde will be flown to directly i.s.o. the usual triangular flights?
