3200 m ain't enough to receive long haul flights? How do they manage at BRU with 02/20 which is even shorter and regularly used for long haul flights also (I've even seen 772's landing and taking off from this runway)...Acid-drop wrote:Mais il précise que la piste, même allongée, reste insuffisante pour accueillir à pleine charge les avions longs courriers ou les gros porteurs, sauf de manière occasionnelle. D'ailleurs, l'aéroport n'envisagerait pas de les développer, car les vols d'avions gros porteurs utilisent principalement des hubs capables de concentrer une clientèle à l'échelle de l'Europe entière, et donc principalement en correspondance.

Obstacles on the flight path may be...
Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
I guess because one would use 02/20 when their's to much crosswind to use 07/25 and so when you operate on 02/20 you always have a serious headwind, reducing the distance needed when taking off / landing.Conti764 wrote:3200 m ain't enough to receive long haul flights? In situations without wind and high temperatures, you probably need the complete 3600m of 07L/25R.

I'm not convinced here...Stij wrote:I guess because one would use 02/20 when their's to much crosswind to use 07/25 and so when you operate on 02/20 you always have a serious headwind, reducing the distance needed when taking off / landing.Conti764 wrote:3200 m ain't enough to receive long haul flights? most of the time when RWY 02 is used, the wind is 060 or 070 (so it's more crosswind than headwind) and btn 6 and 9 knots.
N or NE winds are very light in Belgium.
When they are stronger they are 070/080/090 and then RWY 070 are used as it happened a couple of times in the last two years, as opposed to the past when it never happened.
Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
Euh, I'm not a pilot, so please don't shoot me when I'm wrong... my experience is just as a passenger and a neighbour of BRU.stefanel wrote: most of the time when RWY 02 is used, the wind is 060 or 070 (so it's more crosswind than headwind) and btn 6 and 9 knots.

I understand that 060, 070, 080 and 090 are the winddirections.
These derections (normally) would mean landing on 07L and departing from 07R. Isn't 02 mostly used for landing because they avoid flying over the Royal Palace?

Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
If they fly in via 07L they come nowhere near the palace so I don't think that's the reason... I believe that our worldfamous 'spreidingsplan' is responsible for it.Stij wrote: These derections (normally) would mean landing on 07L and departing from 07R. I should have been more precise: the Palace of Laken. OK, it's not straight over it, but I still would like to have a window seat on the left hand side of the plane...Conti764 wrote:If they fly in via 07L they come nowhere near the palace so I don't think that's the reason... Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
what are the chances of Marcel beulens to get his old job back now that the witch is dead?
I read that he's begun a lawsuit to claim his old job back... If he's the reason for Charleroi's success today, I'm all for it.

Not likely, he has problems with the justice too ...
and don't agree with the politics ...
Don't know if he's the reason of the success, MOL sure is ...

it's been proven that the noice decrease if the track is longer
but they know that a longer track means more trafic, esp long haul ... so they wanna kill CRL development
you see ... it's not only in BRU ...
Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
Sorry but the RWY is 2550 m so + 350m it does not make 2950m but 2900m.
Not sure it changes anything in terms of heavy aircraft...

False! The forbidden area above the palace is in the path of 07L, that is why the VOR/DM approach is not in straight line, to avoid it.Conti764 wrote:If they fly in via 07L they come nowhere near the palace so I don't think that's the reason... You can clearly see the planes turning a bit left during the final approach.
Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
It's more used because it has an ILS approach! And indeed it avoids denser areas overflown when landing on 07L or R.Stij wrote:Euh, I'm not a pilot, so please don't shoot me when I'm wrong... my experience is just as a passenger and a neighbour of BRU.stefanel wrote: most of the time when RWY 02 is used, the wind is 060 or 070 (so it's more crosswind than headwind) and btn 6 and 9 knots.

New Ryanair route to be announced very soon:
Charleroi - Rygge, Moss
For those of you who think that Rygge is a southern holiday spot with palm trees and bikini girls: forget it. Rygge is in Norway.
No news yet about frequencies or start date.
