Flight mapping with OpenFlights

Post by jpatokal »

Just wanted to give y'all a heads-up about my latest little project, OpenFlights, which today emerged from a half-year beta test phase:

Image

It's a flight mapping tool somewhat like FlightMemory, only (IMHO :ugeek: ) quite a bit better: the map can be zoomed, scrolled and filtered, the interface is much faster and more user-friendly, flights are drawn on the map and stats calculated as soon as you enter them, etc. It's also handy for illustrating trip reports, since you can mark some flights as part of a trip and link it to it separately, like this:

Earthquakes, Gamblers, Pirates and Oysters

The whole site is free and open-source, and allows importing from FlightMemory and exporting to CSV, so you can keep your data safe and/or play around with in Excel. Please let me know what you think and if there's anything else you'd like to see.

Just an update: OpenFlights has grown a lot since that original announcement, check out the blog for what's new. The two biggest changes:
  • Route maps for almost all the world's airports (see separate thread)
  • Now also available in Finnish, French, German, Japanese, Lithuanian, Polish, Russian and Swedish, just select your language from the pulldown above Login
Free and open source as always. Let me know what you think -- and we're always looking for new translations! :ugeek:
