The only positive is still, when this plane gets done it will be a great leap forward in terms of technologies, hopefully. Or is wound-barrel composite fuselage a result of over-optimism? Some may say that they want to get everything "permanently" fixed (thus redesign) and sorted before flying it but is that true? With share prices plunging as expected, if they can get the plane in the air for half an hour why wouldn't they do the show? It's like putting paint on the lead test plane as pointed out, probably a show to have people speculating that it'll fly soon and gain a bit of share price. So it looks more likely to me that they aren't confident to have the plane anywhere up in the air in its current form. And things don't always go 100% after the first flight, especially this is such a "new" piece of technology.

What? "airbust"?
If so, yes.
airbust makes a good product, but I don't like the way they do business, especially John "The Mouth" Leahy.
I won't get into the why as it has been beaten to death before.

As to the problem with the 787 it is apparently 18 spots in the wing box area, each spot being 5cm square. That shouldn't, I hope, take too long to fix.

Re: 787 Delay, again
German media reports Qantas has cancelled its order of 15 B787, can anybody confirm this? The reason given is rather the economic situation than the new delay.

"Qantas cancels 15 787s, defers 15 others

Qantas, the biggest airline customer for the Boeing 787, has cancelled 15 of the 65 units had on order and has deferred deliveries of its first 15, blaming economic weakness but not the latest program delay........."

Re: 787 Delay, again
Cancellations might be due to the fact that recent delays are caused by the need to reinforce the structure, adding weight to the aircraft. The very reason why airlines chose the Dreamliner was its extensive use of lightweight materials resulting in fuel savings. The reinforcement of the structure is slowly removing that reason: the 787 will end up weighing as much as its predecessor the 767!
