Re: Name VLM Airlines disappears
Some bizarre notions about Belgium seem to go about in Viet Nam - as bizarre as in France...

Re: Name VLM Airlines disappears
Sad news. I read about this in The Times newspaper - the loss of the VLM name, and the replacement with the cheap and tacky sounding Cityjet is a shame. Does this mean the end of the excellent inflight service provided by VLM and a replacement by the appalling "service" characteristic of a certain other Irish carrier? It seems that Irish airlines always go down the cheap rubbish road - look at Aer Lingus.
Will VLM's Fokker 50s be retained, or will this new mess operate only with the RJ?
Will the services from MAN to LCY and ANR survive?
For me, VLM was the best Belgian carrier after Sabena - in my experience the onboard service was very similar to Sabena and I had always enjoyed flying with them.
I will not fly with Cityjet. This is sad news for aviation in Belgium.

Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

The F50s will remain in the fleet. MAN to LCY was scrapped on 1 June. MAN to ANR is still alive.Comet wrote:Will VLM's Fokker 50s be retained, or will this new mess operate only with the RJ?

Surprised to hear the axing of MAN-LCY - that service had been around for quite a while.
Glad to see the F50 will still be part of the fleet - but will they bear the name CityJet or CityProp

Re: Name VLM Airlines disappears
From a business point of view it's 'more or less' common sense.
Setting up an 'profitable' ***** Airline with a rock solid 'brand'name (Vlaamse Luchtvaart Maatschappij / VLM Airlines) including first class business destinations / (in)flight service and do 'finally' .... cashback.
For the Flemish (NOT mismanaged - bankrupt - Window Dressed Only in Belgium !!) community it's another story.
The Flemish community loose a excellent well known 'high quality' ambassador and a real lover to fly with.
Will I Fly under German Wings (Deutsche Lufthansa) ?
My answer is NO !!
Note: same answer (NO) SN Brussels Airlines !!

It's CityJet : OO-VLO already has the white Cityjet c/s (and a red and black stripe on its tail).Comet wrote:Glad to see the F50 will still be part of the fleet - but will they bear the name CityJet or CityProp

To be correct, it's OO-VLQ that has been repainted first. The next one to go is OO-VLP which would depart to Norwich around the end of this month.LX-LGX wrote:It's CityJet : OO-VLO already has the white Cityjet c/s (and a red and black stripe on its tail).Comet wrote:Glad to see the F50 will still be part of the fleet - but will they bear the name CityJet or CityProp

It are terrible colours, that new Cityjet colours.

Re: Name VLM Airlines disappears
CityJet (Dublin) has just repainted the last Fokker F.27 Mk. 050 of VLM Airlines (OO-VLI "City of Eindhoven"). The VLM brand is now retired.

Re: Name VLM Airlines disappears
Air France since they own VLM now... VLM had to go and had to be replaced by the CityJet brand...Shanti wrote:who choose these terrible colours???
