Re: Avro replacement

It can be ;)
But i prefer too now the E190 to replace AVRO,
And longhaul 50 procent of A330 needs to get replaced to 767/A340 then Brussels Airlines can make newe hubs in America like Las Vegas,Portland i know much travellers they want to go to there but they need first stop in Atlanta...

I am not a technical expert so what I am writing is based on what I have seen and on a kind of "gut" feeling as a passenger who considers things mainly in terms of passenger comfort.
My feeling is that for b.air's fleet renewal, the airline could very well do with, on the one hand, the EMB145 (50 seats) and EMB175 (78 seats) because on some routes b.air usually cannot fill their planes with more pax.
For shorter routes the EMB145 is OK, although I admit that for longer journeys the comfort offered would not be adequate.
For routes with usually more pax, I would got for a mix of aircraft from the A320 family, from the A318 to the A321 (with perhaps majoritarily A319s).
Personally, I hate Bombardier's aircraft and avoid whenever possible to select a flight operated with one of these aircraft (not always possible). The CRJ and Q400s are terrible when it comes to passenger comfort.
So, I only see the arrival of the C-series with a lot of apprehension.
In favor of quality air travel.

So am I the only one who thinks the B737 is the ugly one, with it's sqashed cheeks and all?

I don't find the 737 and the A32O neither beautiful nor ugly. Although they are different, I don't find they look a lot different. I think it is much more the livery adopted by an airline which will make the plane look heavy, dull, slim, gracious, trendy, colourfull, warm and attractive...or not.
But if I make abstraction of the liveries, eventually (= in the end) my vote will however go to Airbus.

Going off-topic indeed, and quite pointless. There are no more beautiful airliners today. The last more or less beautiful was the CV-990 Coronado, the last really beautiful the L-1649 Super Constellation. And an extra medal ("hors concours") for the Tu-114. Since those days, airliners are only efficient.

I mean the flat-looking facets of the hull below the cockpit windows.

Sorry, Jan but you're 100% right but I think that the NEXT generation doesn't know these planes
anymore, okay we enthousiasts offcourse, but we don't see them anymore... just in books and
if lucky in a museum but flying no no no...
And even in that times there was also place for effenciency just the lack of technics and knowhow made
them look good.
But all this is just history, even one of my favourites in my younger years (36y) is already
history ( the tristar).
So let them discuss off-topic a320/737, haha !

Don't underestimate the 'next' generation :P I know all the planes jan_olieslagers is talking about, and I'm only 20 years old... As a matter of fact, when I was ±10 years, I've flown the Constellation (as a passenger of course), when it was in Antwerp back in '98 (I think).

Most beautiful airliners? 1. Concorde, 2. Caravelle and 3. Constellation as well...

A320 or B737? I have to go with A319 (A320 is too long)....

I know I'm a lucky boy, as I don't wanna make you even more jealous, I just stop writing about what aircraft I've flown ;)

AFAIK, the Gabon Caravelle isn't flying anymore for some time, and I would be really surprised if it still was.

Gliderman,

Thx, I didn't know that the caravelle wasn't flying anymore,
I just read an article some months ago so I didn't know the actual condition of
the caravelle, ... ( very reasonable but pity , another type museumbanned  ).

In fact about your other types, you made me quite curious!
Are you a pro/pilot nowadays or just a lucky fortunate air-fan?

Ciao, a (quite) jealous CX-B ! :?

off topic but i found this :
L'appareil qui devait atterrir à Goma, au Congo-Kinshasa (RDC), se pose par inadvertance sur la piste trop courte de Gisengi, au Rwanda. Il s'agissait de la dernière Caravelle opérationnelle au monde. (en) Détails. L'épave est toujours visible sur GoogleEarth en 2008 [Montrer la localisation sur une carte interactive] 1°40′36.16″S 29°15′33.38″E.

If the take-over is ever effective, one wonders what will be the choice of Lufthansa for Brussels Airlines.
Perhaps more information in july ?
Is this replacement urgent ?
What's the leasing price for the SN avros ?

I think that's purely personal taste & part of the whole "back then it was all better" thing, like music or movies from the old days. When I see a 744 take off in front of a setting sun I still shiver & for me it's one of the most beautiful things I will ever see. I guess it's just what you grow up with.

Hello,

you could open a topic discussing tastes, beautiful or not aircraft because there hasn't been a single post from you on topic.
Not that I'm unhappy with that, but it's getting hard to follow and have all informations about the subject.

By the way, is there anything scheduled for replacing the avros, or is B.Line waiting for the deal with Lufthansa ?

I believe I read somewhere that they just renewed most of the AVRO leases untill 2014, and that the 737 replacement has priority.
