May 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka has ordered a number of military transport helicopters and other weaponry from Russia, Russia's RIA Novosti news agency said today quoting Sri Lanka's Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The Russian state-owned news agency reported that the Defence Secretary in an exclusive interview has said that the helicopters had been already ordered.

yes, this order is known already quite some time.
If they had known that the war would have been over by now, they would not have ordered those machines. Because there is not 1 application these choppers are needed for besides of the civil war.
No anti tank war fare (Sri Lanka is an island )
No coast guard functions ( other type of choppers )
No anti submarine functions ( other type )
No troop movements ( can be done by airplane in case there is no civil war )

There have appeared already some nervous reactions by western military hardware manufacturers who complain that Sri Lanka is driven towards the Russian and Chinese suppliers because the westerners are too reluctant to supply a country in civil war.

Maybe the can sell them to Venezuela, Iran or North Korea. And use the money to rebuild the country.
