Mijn droom is om eens te mogen mee vliegen in de airbus 310 van
de 'belgian air force'. Zijn er soms mogelijkheden hiervoor? Soms
zie je journalisten, militairen met dit toestel meevliegen. Organiseert
misschien het belgisch leger 'rondvluchten' op bepaalde data bv. tijdens
opendeur dagen of zo? Hopelijk kan ik mijn airbus 310 droom realiseren!

Last year, they used the A310 on the 'fly to your dream' event. This is some sort of job-day for jobs at the airforce. Everybody who attended got a flight in the Airbus.
This year however, they changed the A310 for an Embraer. Maybe more luck next year.

I don't know of any other event where they use the airbusses on other public events. You can also fly an A310 of Air Transat to Montreal a few days a week from BRU.

You'll have to hurry, both A310's are scheduled for replacement by new planes that will be leased.
Afaik I thought they are allready asking for offers to lease new planes.

Since it's a bit slow in aviation it can go fast if the government makes a decision. But probably (like always in Belgium) it will take some time.

With full respect to your person Shanti, but why would the Belgian Airfirce give preference to an interested civilian, if they are unable to fullfill their task with the A310 -which has been out of action at the most embarrasing moments - for their own personnel?
Joining the Belgian military service is one solution. ( the Belgian military is the safest employer in Belgian with the lowest rate of deaths during working time . Fact ) You get at least 1 year military training, and afterwards you are sent out for 2 or 3 foreign missions a year e.g. Benin, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Libanon,...
But the chance that you see the A310 from inside remains as small as a civilian, if we look back at the canceled flights of the A310.

To give you some confort: I have seen several A310 from the inside as a passenger and I can only say that they look like an air bus. Nothing fancy about it, but not bad at all either.

I find that "fact" very hard to believe, given that I have (be it in the past) seen coffins with belgian flags on it (a few F-16 crashes within our own boundaries, 10 belgian soldiers in Rwanda, etc.) , while I have already worked for at least 3 employers logging a blank death toll since their very existance...you might want to reconsider that statement

OK, way of topic...

When calculating the "risk" you have to take into account the number of accidents, the seriousness of the accidents (days of sick-leave, handicaps, death) and the number of hours worked in the company/organisation.

Without stating that the Belgian military is the safest employer in Belgium but because of its size it could very well be that, even though they've had some serious mortal accidents they could actually be safer then a smaller company without a mortal accident.

I was given the numbers by the MoD itself. It showed the graphics of different fields of employment. Construction is dangerous, but also transportation , steel works and...agriculture +fisheries.
According those numbers, the MoD is the safest employer in Belgium - despite the 10 para's at Ruanda, 1 suicide jump in the Suez canal, 3 casualties by an overturning Pandur at Libanon and a long time ago now and then some F-16 crashes.( or a technician being sucked in a engine...)
Some numbers are not presented: the high death toll by asbestos used in the marine's engine rooms, heavy metal poisoning by paint, use of chemicals and so on.
There are also some other matters that the MoD doesn't like to talk about such as acoholism, drug abuse, suicide records ( higher with police men and doctors) , stress, and the impact of repetitive foreign assignments. ( causing divorce and other relational problems )

But I agree, we have to return to the A310.
