ATR planes are made by France-based Avions
de Transport Regional.
Wrong!

ATR stands for Avions de Transport Régional, and is made by French Aérospatiale and Italian Alenia.

And furthermore, my experience (like Jumbolino's) tells me it's a nice plane to fly: roomy for people AND for hand baggage. The strange thing is that C class is in the back, because the main door is also in the back.

At Sabena the entrance was in the front of the plane and business-class was in front too on their 2 ATR 72's from Schreiner Airways.

Funny since I did a copy paste from there own website........those french really don't even know there own name of the company and you still wonder why those planes are flying so uncomfortable?

even worst
The ATR was build by an cooperation of aerospartiale (french) and Alenia (Italian)

but it's a nice looking aircraft :P
and yes, I heard for the crew the ATR is a pity, but for PAX it's good until you have not the height of Fred (Sabena_690)

I agree with Jumbolino about the looks of the ATR - I love to get them on video, I filmed a Sabena example in Brussels back in July 2000, and I still have the footage now, as well as a Dash 8 of sabena which was just taxying in beside the ATR. I can't comment from a passenger point of view though.

The Fokker props have to be some of the best, they have been going for many years in their various guises, and are still widely in use today. The Fokker 27 and 50 have excellent safety records.

Hi André,

Sorry, I don't know why, but your answer wasn't visible, when I pushed the button post reply but afterwards of course it was - ce la vie
should never happen everything more serious than a not refreshed cache - or what ever it was ;-)

I am surprised that the Fokkers haven't got a larger share of the vote. Also the Saab aircraft only have one supporter, I would have thought that the Saab 2000, with its excellent performance, would be more well liked.

But for me it will always be the Fokker, try the approach into LCY on a F50 and then see how much fun flying in a Fokker prop is!

Happy New Year from Scarborough (beer wasteland).

Sorry to spoil your votes

But IMHO the BEST EVER is the Fokker F27 Friendship. :D :D :D

That does NOT include the Fokker 50 though.

I hope it is NOT a problem, posting twice in a row on the same thread?

Just wanted to add a photo of my favourite commuter aircraft. :D

This is the Fokker F27 that we ferried from Australia to England, shown in transit at the Fokker Factory (with me).

It was at the time the oldest F27 ever to return to its birthplace, and Fokker made a real fuss of it, and us too. :D

I added the Saab to the list well after the poll had begun.

Comet,

Yes, but you shouldn't encourage me, now I will want to show you more.

The F27 is my favourite commuter aircraft, partly because it was my first Licence, and also because of this ferry flight. :D

Three captains and I, ferried it (VH-FNR) from Melbourne Australia to Norwich England, a trip of nearly two weeks, with a couple of rest days in Bahrain, and we completed the trip right on schedule, with no delays.

Best regards,

Lame. :D

The F27 ready to leave Melbourne, with a now finished Ansett B767 behind us.

Image

We had to stop in Alice Springs for fuel etc, then overnight at Broome, still in Australia.

Image

The next day we stopped in Bali, Indonesia, for fuel and supplies etc.

Image

Sharing the tarmac there with another F27, of Merpati.

Image

Then on to Singapore overnight at Seletar.

Image

The next day we only went through to Bangkok, then the following day we stopped at Calcutta for fuel etc.

Image

Before an overnight in New Delhi.

Image

Then a tech stop in Karachi, where I still don't know whether this guy was protecting me, or keeping an eye on me

Image

Then on to Bahrain for a couple of days off.

Image

After that we had a tech stop in Jeddah, then on to Cairo overnight.

Image

Okay, this is NOT of the F27, but it is one of my favourite photos, I never thought I would get to the Pyramids etc

Image

We then had a tech stop in Athens, before overnight at Malpensa Milan.

Image

Where their bus was as big as our F27.

Image

After doing a very odd climb to get over the Alps, we arrived at the Fokker Factory, which you have seen, before finally arriving that night (on schedule) in Norwich, where we handed the F27 over to Air UK.

Very nice trip report and I love your pics. I did some nice repairs on the F-27 in my Fokker Aircraft Services years. I did fly with the Troopership in my Air Force period, great plane!

I am NOT one of the camels, if that is what you mean.

I am in a blue shirt, riding the second camel. :D

Marvellous what you can do if it is for your benefit, we left Bahrain about 0400 that morning so we would get to Cairo early enough to tour the Pyramids and Sphinx etc before dark.

I flew on the Fokker 27 on domestic flights operated by Icelandair. They were only short flights (about 50 mins) but they flew over some very spectacular scenery, and the Fokker 27s didn't fly as high as the Fokker 50s do now.

I remember Luxair's flight to Nice, almost a guided tour over eastern France... flying from one airport to and over the other....
