Airline quality

Post by easyland »

Hi everyone!

I have a work to do for my master :
Can you pls rate some or all airlines you've travelled by a note from 0 to 10 (10 best quality) and send me an e-mail with this to airbg@hotmail.com

The rating rule is simple : 0 - never again , 10 - preferred airline.

Thank you very much for your help

VLM 9/10, small aircraft but nice crew and also good catering for such short flights

Jetairfly 8/10, friendly staff, good planes, you have to pay for your meals (quality of meals is average)

Thomas Cook 8/10, most of the time on time, good airbus 320 , free snack/meal on board (snack can
be very very very small)

Brussels Airlines 6/10, but a big 10 for the very friendly staff, old planes, not even a glass of water is free in
B light class which is a pitty

TNT airways, i flew TNT on a flight from Brussels to Alicante 9/10, very friendly cabin crew, my flight was
on time, free meal, nice in-flight magazine, old interior of their boeing 737-300

Thank you other members for replying, so I found that I had forgotten some:
  • Turkish : 8/10
    Austrian : 8/10
    Easyjet : 8/10
I wonder which ones I still have forgotten.

Strangely enough, it are the worst flights that popped up in my mind first.

Some airlines I have flown with, I was too young to really have an opinion, but I remember what my Mum told me about those flights, so I shall rate them on that.

British Airtours (no longer exists) about 8 out of 10
British Airways - a tricky one, their ground crews are rubbish but their in flight service was faultless - 8 out of 10
Cyprus Airways 9 out of 10
Iberia 7 out of 10
Finnair 9 out of 10 (did not like inflight food but otherwise a very good airline)
Icelandair 0 out of 10
Air New Zealand 0 out of 10 (what a pity that 0 is the lowest score, it is too high for Air New Zealand!)
Air France 7 out of 10
BMI - 8 out of 10 - great crews but appalling in flight "food"
VLM 10 out of 10 - great aircraft, great prices, great food
Sabena 10 out of 10 what a pity they no longer exist
SN Brussels - 8 out of 10
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

I'll try to be as objective as possible ;)

Air France (long haul) 6/10 Didn't really like AF's economy product, business was average

Air Mauritius (long haul) 9/10 Great business class product in their 340-300, but the orange colour in the 340-300 ER is just horrible! Their first class was superb as well, it's a shame they don't offer it anymore...

American Airlines (long haul) 7/10 Friendly crew and tasty food

Austrian Airlines (short haul) 8/10 Friendly crew and enough space on board

Citybird (short & long haul) 9/10 Superb crew, product and food. What a shame...

KLM (long haul) 9/10 Very good business class product on the B747

KLM Cityhopper 8/10

Iberia (short haul) 0/10 Once & never again

Iberia (long haul) 0/10 Here I would like to give -3... No further comment

Jet Airways (long haul) 9/10 I really liked them, great economy class, friendly and helpful crew and good food

Lufthansa (short haul) 8/10 Very nice

Lufthansa (long haul) 8/10 Business class is great, economy class is not as good as others in Europe

Jetairfly 7/10 New planes and friendly crew

Thomas Cook 7/10

Tyrolean Airlines 8/10 Friendly crew & nice little service

United Airlines (long haul) 7/10

Sobelair (short & long haul) 9/10

Virgin Express 5/10 Didn't like the 'buy on board'

Sabena (short & long haul) 10/10 Ah... What more can I say? They were good!

SN Brussels Airlines (short haul) 9/10 Good price & product, friendly crew

Brussels Airlines (short haul) 8/10 Still don't like the 'buy on board', bFlex is okay.

Brussels Airlines (long haul) 10/10 I really love the business class! Extremely attentive crew, great food & wines and comfortable seats.

Did you see how few flew Alitalia?
This is probably the proof that a booking with Alitalia doesn't automatically mean you will fly.

I forgot about Aer Lingus. On the ratings scale mentioned in the first post, I really should give them a big fat zero because I have no intention of ever flying with them again. Not because of bad service but I will not go with these cheap and tacky things which model themselves on Ryanair. When we flew with them it was shortly before they became cheap rubbish - all that was offered on board was "tea, coffee, juice or water", we flew on a six abreast BAe 146 and I was not alllowed to make any video during the flight - that is the first time that has happened to me.

We would like to go to Ireland again but it is a big problem because the "choices" (if you could call them that!) are between cheap and rubbish Ryanair and cheap and rubbish Aer Lingus. I refuse to go by ferry. I feel sorry for people in Ireland whose two airlines are both the cheap rubbish model.

Is it a joke ?
This year, until now, I have flown only with Ryanair (30 flights) and easyJet (2 flights) and I'll give a 9 to Ryanair and a 7 to easyJet (poor punctuality).
Ryanair is cheap but quite enjoyable - to-date, I have logged some 240 flights with them, including many to/from Ireland : Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Belfast. No problem so far. It's a pity you renounce going to Ireland for such reasons. irish people will no doubt be sorry ... for you.

If you really want to avoid Ryann Air or Air Lingus, you can travel on BMI/*alliance member. They have very competitive prices but with a plane change in LHR.

I am not renouncing Ireland. I have read more complaints about cheap crap such as Ryanair than any other airline. I am not prepared to fly with an airline which charges you to use check in, charges you to use the onboard toilet, allows mobile phones to be used throughout the flight and generally regards its passengers as sh*t. You might like cheap rubbish but I most certainly do not.

And on the Aer Lingus question, I was reading complaints in the Irish press when the airline started going cheap and tacky - passengers were saying that if they wanted to have non-existant service then they would choose Ryanair. To have both your large airlines as cheap rubbish models must be pretty gross. I was not impressed by them at all.

As for going via LHR - last time we did that none of our luggage joined us! If BMI had flights to DUB from anywhere other than LHR then I would fly with them, but LHR is a nightmare to transfer through.
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

@ Comet

Good to see that you retain an open mind. As far as I recall you have not actually travelled on any " cheap crap" airlines (unless you mean BMI, BA et al) so you are not really in any position to criticise them or those who use them. Why not book a flight with one of them just to see whether your prejudices are real or just imagined from what you read in the press.

Unless I travel business class I am more concerned about timeliness and safety than creature comforts and with the average flight being between 1 and 2 hours there is no need for all the creature comforts you seem to regard as necessary when flying. Accept that you are going on a bus with wings and enjoy the benefit of still having money to spend when you arrive at a destination.

@ all

It is almost pointless maring airlines out of 10 as everyone's experiences and expectations are different. I could easily mark down Lufthansa after a "DARK" flight to Atlanta where all the audio and video refused to work. Yes, I didn't get to watch a couple of movies but we departedon-time, arrived a little early and the flight was smooth and the rest of the service was fine. We did all get a miles credit but that was later. C'est la vie.

I have to say that the best experience so far has been with Qatar on a leg from Munich to Doha where the, then, new business class was installed. Best restaurant I have eaten in!!
