Nouvelair / Tunisair

Hello

I consider myself an aircraft/airline "enthousiast" and visit this forum very often. In May we are going on vacation to Djerba with Thomas Cook. I tought we would have flown with Thomas Cook Airlines but now it seems the flights will be operated by Nouvelair and Tunis Air.

While I am an "enthousiast" I still don't toally feel "safe" in an aircraft.. and although it might and probably is just in my head.. I always am even a bit more scared when flying non-belgian airlines...

What do you guys know about Nouvelair and Tunis Air ? Do they have a recent fleet ? Any issues with them recently ?
These are all things I like to know before getting into one of their aircraft

But like I said... it's probably between my ears

As far as I am aware they would have been obliged to tell you before you book your holidays that the flight will not be with them. Has it not been mentioned anywhere in the documents, brochures, etcetera? I am not a law-guy, but if it really has not been mentioned (usually they do a "*" and than somewhere at the bottom: flights are operated by ....) I think you might even be entitled to ask for your money to be returned if you do not want to travel with those airlines (but I am really not sure about the Belgian law here).

I have no experience with any of the airlines, so I really cannot give you advice on this, sorry. The only thing I remember - I think it was a Tunisair plane? - is an ATR going down somewhere off the Italian cost on its way from Italy to Tunis some years ago because of a fault with the instruments showing the amount of fuel on board?! But there are probably people here in the forum with more information ...

Had the same thing about 5 years ago (Nouvelair up & down). Don't worry, can't remember anything so it was a non-event. Maybe one thing, all male cabin . Djerba might be an arabian country, it used to be French and hasn't got any natural resources besides salt. It tried to stay alive by creating a big "western tourism" business. (The downside is that this business frequently hits the "hollywood fake" label, but that's another discussion). Since tourism keeps the country alive, the airlines are a part of this "western" Tunis part so there isn't anything to worry about.

I flew Brussels-Tunis With TunisAir in september and had nothing than a good experience with them.

I didn't look up the data but I think you would have more legg room at Tunis Air than TCA.

Funny, never thought people like us could feel scared on a plane ,
but...
* TC mentioned this in front of their price-list .
Here they say they use flights to certain places like... Nouvelair, Tunis Air, Cyprus Airways, Croatia Airlines,
Brussels Airlines, JetairFly, Bulgarian Air Charter,... and when you ask to view the details on
their website they give you your airline company. ( Rhodos even Viking Air )
I noticed this while looking for my own holiday !
If you searched this you had known it ! Bulgarian Air Charter = Bulgaria,Cyprus/Tunis/...

* Don't worry about the companies , saw planes of them, all 'recent' material Airbus 320/319, some
737 old geneartion -500/400 like JAF nothing to wory about.
Some Mad Dogs of Nouvelair a little worse but still don't worry.

* I also think a Tunisair downed one ATR, but that plane is just used domestic, on very short routes.

* Djerba is not a country, just part of Tunesia . Went there several years ago,
take your Immodium ! , but nice holiday .
Besides went there with sobelair B737 OO-SBZ with an brake problem !Brake -oil was all over the tarmac,
had to get out of the plane for 2/3 hours. Very amusing as an enthousiast.

* Enjoy it, be happy you fly an other company !
As an enthousiast it would be another experience than always the same A320 of TC or B737 of JAF.

btw it's not like I am really scared... it's feeling a bit "unsafe" as as a passenger you don't have any control if anything goes wrong. But indeed that's with every airline and airplane... and even other means of transportation.

We're going to Djerba just for the sake of relaxing a week. Sun, sea, beach, pool and good food & drinks is all I expect from it, nothing more Hotel should be quite OK, booked the Iberostar Djerba Beach which is supposed to be the best in Djerba according to most review sites.

I'll let you know how it went, plane and hotel

Funny, never thought people like us could feel scared on a plane ,

Well, I have to admit it scares me to the limit of shouting (and sometimes beyond) when my instructor makes a sudden pronounced climb so that I instantly loose sight of horizon - yet I enjoy flying, every instant of it, except these futile exceptions!

But I have to admit it is less frightening to be up front where at least one knows what is happening than to be somewhere down the tube and have to wait for things to happen - or not.

Al-Qaeda Takes Responsibility for Deadly Bombing
The al-Qaeda terrorist group has acknowledged responsibility for the deadly bombing of a Jewish synagogue in Tunesia. 21 people were killed in the attack, including 14 German tourists.

"This operation was carried out by al Qaeda network. A youth could not see his brothers in Palestine butchered and murdered...(while) he saw Jews cavorting in Djerba," said the recording.

"So this spirit of jihad surged and he (the al Qaeda member) carried out this successful operation, may God accept it." As previously reported in Shortnews, the tape went on to confirm that Bin Laden is still alive and planning more attacks.

if it comes to terrorist attack there is no place you are safe.
I just wanted to know if you guys had anything to say about the 2 airlines I mentioned earlier, but thank you for informing me of possible terrorist attacks I guess

As I protested to Thomas Cook when they informed me about flight hours - departure brussels at 21.30 and arival at Djerba at 00.45 , they put me on an earlier flight (but Tunis Air instead of Nouvelair)... still 18.35 - 21.45 tho

So much for the first day...

I am quite confident that the Tunisair flight will be fine, free food etcetera.

Good moment by the way, it is less than 40°C. I still can not understand the people who visit Egypt, Morroco or Tunis during the summer season, sometimes with temperatures around 50°C.
