ILS Treviso Airport

Post by Stij »

Dear all,

Friday evening, my flight from Treviso to CRL was cancelled due to the fog at Treviso.

I know, I should have known that flying to Treviso in wintertime is always risky because of the notorious Po delta fog and that Venice or Bergamo are the better options with their ILS Cat IIIb, but does anybody know if and when TSF is going to upgrade to Cat IIIb?

Cheers,

Stij

I asked for a refund. I don't even want to start the discussion for compensation, it's bad for my health. Actuyally, I don't think any airliner would pay compensation for fog.

Compensation can be something different than money. Friends couldn't fly Brussels to Zurich because of fog at Zurich. They got free hotel rooms + free transfer for the flight the next day.

Ryanair could have done like other airlines: fly to a non foggy airport and arrange transport by coach. Just like Brittish Airlines has done already several times landing at Liège, Düsseldorf, Ostend and transport the passengers to Brussels.

What is the distance from Bergamo to Treviso? 1 hour? 1.5 hour?

But I know, we are not allowed to discuss low cost carrier's policy.

Bergamo to Treviso is some 220 km; Treviso to Trieste airport some 120 km.
The policy of Ryanair is very clear and well known : you can get very cheap flights, but then if something goes wrong, you take care of yourself.
If you don't accept that rule, you abstain from booking a Ryanair flight (although most of them depart and arrive on time).
Yesterday, I was very nearly stuck up at TSF (the flights from BVA and LPL did not land, the flight from CRL did it). TSF-CRL had cost me the total price of 4,01 euros. Could I have demanded food and accomodation if the flight had been cancelled ? In all honesty, I don't think so.

Actually our flight never departed CRL, they completey cancelled the rotation. Other aircraft were diverted to Forli that evening... 250km on a bus in the fog in the Po delta... not my cup of tea

So you were more lucky then I was! You lucky ^%*&*()*^! Just kidding!!!

I must say I agree with you, with what you pay for your ticket, you can't expect to be catered for if it's not their fault. Ryanair is a different product.

On the other hand, VCE is Cat IIIb, and stays open longer then TSF. I'm a bit angry they don't divert to there. As they have to bus those passengers over a long distance and have to pay back a lot of pax of the return flight, why not spent that money on a more expensive airport? Same with CRL and BRU.

Actually they even lie about it (and that disturbes me the most!!!). When you're flying to TSF and they divert to whatever, they'll announce that VCE is closed as well and that that's the reason they have to divert to whatever. Only when you check later on the internet, you find out that VCE was open all day long!

Cheers,

Stijn

Yep, in wintertime, stick to BGY: the safer option! Or fly to VCE on Bru Air of course...

I was lucky to land in TSF on Saturday, January 24th. I was very worried myself about the fog the day before.
I even considered on not going anymore, I wouldn’t have liked to land maybe in Trieste, it would have been a lot less time to spend in Venice (which was already short, since I had a flight on Sunday morning, back to Bucharest, but from VCE).

So I’m also very interested in the ILS being installed in TSF.
