Great too see those Russians Mr. Bushman. I surely miss them in Belgian skies, Pulkovo was one of the last overflyers
.

Re: Contrail spotting January 2009
Seen on UN866 at Jan 02 about 13.00-16.00 local time.
First there was ANA 777 coming from NRT heading to LHR.
After that there was another ANA but this time it was 747 but I can't remember where it was going or coming
Probably Osaka to LHR.
It was followed by KLM 747 from Hong Kong to EHAM the flight was KL888.
Then JAL 777-300ER coming from NRT again heading LHR.
and last Virgin Atlantic A340-600 but it was too dark to see it only the lights were visible coming from NRT.
Then some planes from routes I don't know:
Swissair A340 heading almost directly south coming probably from Shanghai.
Air France A330 from CDG going somewhere far east opposite direction with UN866 planes.
I mostly use Svealand flight radar to be sure that the planes were correct airline but I usually identify them.
Oh and anyone got an air route map for Scandinavia because I want to see the other routes?

Hi all,
DC10MD11, the AN-124 was most likely VDA4574 routing Gander (CYQX) to Franfurt Hahn (EDFH). I was waiting for it to pass over me but to no avail. Nice photos caught by you.
So here is my collection of photos from Saturday. A lot of Gatwick departures to the US were directed overhead, some with contrails.
Thomas Cook 757, heading south (and miles away from its assigned airway
)

Gatwick Departures:
Northwest 757

US airways A330

First Choice 767

BA 777

Delta 767

BA 777

Thomas Cook A330

Asiana Airlines 747 heading East to EBBR

Monarch A320 heading to Tenerife from Birmingham

Some sunset pics:

Best Regards,
James

Hi!ilpavone2004 wrote:what are your settings? (scope and camera)
I use Sky-Watcher 8" and Canon 400D camera.
I use Aperture Priority mode on the camera and underexpose pictures to about -1 or -1.3 on ISO100. Shutter time is usually 1/500 and shorter.
I shoot in RAW format because it's sharper and easier to correct.
After all I slightly correct exposure settings in Digital Photo Professional software, then convert files to JPEG and use Photoshop for further corrections.
Regards,
Sergey

Some intresting birds in Belgian skies this afternoon. Spotted in the last 90 mins. :
Qatar Airways A333 A7-AEE (Doha 2006 Asian Games special colours)
Kuwait Airways B777 9K-AOA; both on UL 608 heading for LHR
and Airbus Transport International A300-600ST (Beluga) F-GSTD, on UN 873, probably heading towards Hamburg-Finkenwerder

Re: Contrail spotting January 2009
Bushman787, both pictures clear as a bell! Your pictures have very good contrast for an 8" scope.

The air was very transparent on that day.contrailwatcherUK wrote:Bushman787, both pictures clear as a bell! Your pictures have very good contrast for an 8" scope.
Also underexposure and some corrections in Photoshop helped to improve contrast
