Thnx for the info Atlantis!
I've heard that the old departure terminal with check in rows 11 and 12 (now used for SN Africa OPS) will be closed soon and that they will construct a check in row 0, where there is now the gift shop in front of row 1. Is this true?
Any idea of when they will start the construction works of the LCT? Even 11 months to construct a terminal and get it fully ready isn't a lot of time...
I've heard the same rumors about the construction of an extra row in the 1995 terminal.
Now, in the old terminal, some things already have been changed:
- They tore down the provisional grey wall on the left side when you enter the old terminal. The '50-ish' metal wall has been replaced by a wooden wall, painted white. Only a small portion of the provisional wall (with the boxes for border control) has been maintained.
- Roughly halfway the empty space between row 12 and the outer wall of the terminal, a new check-in row with 12 desks is being built. It is separated from row 12 with a wooden wall, which spans the entire width of the terminal, and about 3 or 4 meters high (I guess). There is a gate at the end.
- In the old terminal air side (where the Skyhall is) there has been a lot of demolishing. Roughly everything that isn't a part of the structure itself and what could be removed, is removed. The shops are torn down, escalators, doors,... The last time I have seen it, there was not so much progress. But depending on what they want to do with it, I assume they can have it up and running by the end of the year.
- At arrivals level, belt 4 has been cut in half, a new belt is under construction adjacent to it. To bring the bags to this new belt, they have made a plain ugly construction (which I assume will be covered). The bags for this new belt, come out of conveyor once used for belt 4, turn right, go up over a walkway and down again to the new belt (5?). This entire construction is visible, but as I said, I suppose they are going to cover it up.
I don't know the purpose of this new belt since I guess the bags of the LC passengers will arrive at the arrivals level of the old terminal (?).
I think 2009 will be an interesting year for everyone who is interested in Brussels Airport.
