MZJ (Marana - Pinal Airpark) 30/11/2008

Post by Bottie »

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure to have a small, but very nice trip in the US. We (Q and I) visited several places, like LAX, Mojave, Victorville, El Mirage, Goodyear and Marana - Pinal Airpark. For the last one, I have several pictures which are processed and can be seen in this post. We had to do this by plane to ensure we had a complete view, and since there is a small airfield a few kilometers from there, that wasn't a problem. We rented a Cessna 172 F (N9548F) and the pilot was Jim Beardsley, who was very kind to us. He even arranged that the sidewindow could be open completely so I had no problem to put my lens through the window, which isn't easy when you are flying about 105knts and with the lens in the airstream of the propellor :). Here are the first results:

They served well, so for some it's waiting for better times, for others the scrapman :-)

Looking at satellite photography, I observed a collection of twin-pusher canard planes (to the North of the terminal, or what I take to be the terminal) Could these be grounded Beech Starships?

As far as I know Beech bought the Starships back from it's owners since it was too expensive for Beech to support maintenance for the (unfortunately) limited amount of planes sold.

Confirmed :)

Have a picture of them while landing back at Avra Valley, should take a look if it's a good one ;)
