Is it thier self-made fighter? Looks like F-16 and EF Typhoon merged into one. :P
Why thier military airlanes always look like some kind of transformation or compilation?...

It is a plain threat to the military planners of the policicy of the USA in the far east . Look at the refueling probes ( not retractabale ?)
It must show that they can perform long distance strikes.

They did the same kind of show offs with their new submarines and shooting down of a satelite.

Taiwan is one of the main targets. With these new jets , mainland China wants to cut of Taiwan from USA help in case of a conflict. They want to have air dominance even on the east side of Taiwan, so resupply by air is also impossible.( to keep the USA navy battle groups on a long distance )
Resupply by sea is already cut off by their newest submarines.

This is all theory. In case of a real conflict we know what Chinese made equipment stands for. See the total collapse of an entire army in the 1979 invasion of Vietnam. The use of Chinese made jets in Burma also did not lead to major succes.

But OK, they have now those jets, and the Americans wil have to live with it.

Whatever the Chinese would like to claim, its technology is about 20 years behind . Integration of full weapon systems is not existant , collaboration with other units is questionable.

This jet is still far away from the multi role that the Sukhoi can play in its different variants. Or the Rafale, Eurofighter, ...

The chinese army has also a number of Sukhoi's in service. Allthough the J10 looks a bit like the Israeli Lavi there are a lot of differences (air intake for instance).

China is now only discovering their huge potential in research. Already a lot of researchers active in universities outside China are coming back to China. A country with that many people and a not so bad education system is capable of spectacular things. Watch them, be carefull and don't try to minimise their achievements, out of our west supporioty feeling.
Not everything that is produced in China is of poor quality. First of all this would make most products of poor quality as most things are manufactured there. A good example of a superior product from China is the IBM Thinkpad (now Lenovo Thinkpad), that always has been produced by Lenovo under the logo of IBM and now under their own logo.

I don't discuss the Chinese women on the photo. I have 1,5 chinese women at home.

OK JCO, but aside from products designed and engineered in the west ( such as my first generation iMac which is still daily used and also made in China and of excellent quality ) , could you give some examples of products engineered and designed in China, and exported with succes to the West ?
The Landwind and Brilliance disasters are still in our mind. So please don't mention copied products.
No, the rocket programm doesn't count as well. They did not even try to hide it was a Russian design. The capsule was clearly a Russian 'ball'.
Are you aware that practically every prototype engine for the Chinese car market ismade in the West, particulary in Germany ? I have seen quite some prototypes for Korean and Chinese engines in tool shops in the UK, Germany , Netherlands and France. Test benches, pre serial production, serial production tools, it was all made here.
Despite my numerous travels in Asia - also for business - I have not seen 1 prototype, development, engineering product or even company in > 15 years.

But this is not a critical remark on your posting. You are right that many Chinese have done their studies over seas and like it more to stay in China. The food, the family , the culture, the easier money, lower taxes, just name it.
But back in China they will collide with a culture which does not tolerate personal initiative, knowing better, showing off to be better, saying that the study abroad showed that there is a better solution. And those returned students will quickly have to choose: bow their head again or leave.
The last option is why we see so many Indians in the UK hospitals...

Just what I tried to explain. The Reuters article uses the same background information that I posted here. Even referring to the 1979 disastrous clash with the Vietnamese.
What would Reuters pay me for articles ? :)

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6280JW20100309

(Reuters) - Big on spit and polish and parades but short on experience, new technology and force coordination, China's military has far to go before its bite begins to approach its increasingly loud, and for some fearsome, bark.
