Previous scheduled passenger airlines & destinations @ BRU

Post by Kabila »

Since Wikipedia has decided to permanently delete its former airlines at Brussles Airport paragraph from its Brussels Airport page, I would like to to keep this topic alive via Luchtzak. Below you will find an (incomplete) list of former scheduled passenger flights to and from BRU. Some airlines and destinations date from many years ago, others have just withdrawn a few days ago from BRU (example Sterling).

Please remember that airlines sometimes come and go (example Royal Jordanian)and that this list will be incomplete at any given moment. I am sure there are more airlines that once had scheduled passenger service at BRU, so please feel free to complete the list if you remember an airline that once had scheduled passenger service at BRU.

This list is published for airline lovers so that in a few years, we can still remember what nice airline tails we once could all admire at BRU. To all those negative people on this forum, please refrain from any sarcastic comments or remarks about how bad BRU airport is and how great it used to be.

Note: I have not included 'tag on' destinations from airlines who for commercial reasons sell a destination from BRU with one flight number but which typically requires a change of aircraft somewhere in bewtween (example, United sells its daily flight as a BRU-IAD-ORD flight but in reality passengers have to disembark in IAD and continue to ORD on an other airplane; thus UA does not 'really' serve BRU from ORD and therefore is not listed below).

In my hazy memory it was JFK-LHR-BRU
I remember very well that this sole plane motivated me for a 2 hour's bicycle ride to Zaventem!

Pan American also flew intereuropean flights with 737200 and 727 during the 80's
TWA did the same with B727-100's originating from Berlin or athens, not sure.

There has been an AMS-BRU Pan Am flight with a 747, in the morning; I made it on 3 oct 1971, with N741PA - just to fly on that (then) new type.

Before the fall of the Berlin wall, Lufthansa was barred from flying to Berlin. Only Pan American, Air France and BEA flew scheduled services from the american/french/english zones of Berlin to West Germany and other European cities.

> People Express to San Francisco

Only once a week on day 3, the other days of the week was to EWR.

> Flying Tigers: JFK

FT was also connecting BRU with LHR and FRA. The flight to FRA had flightnumber FT44, I believe.

> Including more than 15 cargo-parcel carriers

AC cargo 3 DC8's at noon on Sunday!

PA cargo I have a picture somewhere with 2 747F at the then new Belgavia cargo facilities in 1980. The building was marked with big Pan Am Cargo letters.

> TWA - New York-JFK

+ TXL and SVO with 727

> Garuda DC10 to Jakarta

+ 747

> Flybe - Edinburgh, Exeter

+ BHX?
