You must be living on a different planet. When you have only 2 B747-200s in service such an event is not "peanuts".

Thanks....
I was not talking about the Ops consequences but about the repair itself, on the other hand this kind of AOG situation are part of this planet....if you are not prepared to this kind of event...YOU are living on a different planet....

Re: Cargo B Tailstrike
Am I dreaming or did the left elevator (inboard, near fuselage) take part of the hit? I might be wrong though...it's still early in the morning and I'm still waking up

It seems that the pictures are gone?

Indeed. We have been asked to remove them for legal reasons.Bralo20 wrote:It seems that the pictures are gone?

You can still see it on other aviation websites, a well-known British one, for instance, and on :Bralo20 wrote:It seems that the pictures are gone?

One hear much about the consequences for Cargo B; but what about the causes of that tail-strike ?
Pilot error ? Sudden tail wind ? Freight badly positioned or moving during the rotation ?
Re: Cargo B Tailstrike
An AC mechanic on another forum, after seeing the pictures, has the same opinion on the repairs as DesertRat, he calls them 'easy and straightforward'.
Re: Cargo B Tailstrike
Maybe I missed something during training but the B744 has no such feature like a "Tailstrike indicator"Desert Rat wrote:The new generation of A/C's with glass cockpit have a tail strike indicator (chevron on the primary flight display) wich represents the limit that the pilot can not exceed during the rotation to avoid a tailstrike, they have as well an auto-callout "pitch-pitch" to warn the crew, but i guess this old generation of 747 is still equipped with conventional instrument...

Well that "chevron" is optional on the Airbus fly by wire A/C's, i don't know if it's available on the Boeing...Jester wrote:Maybe I missed something during training but the B744 has no such feature like a "Tailstrike indicator"Desert Rat wrote:The new generation of A/C's with glass cockpit have a tail strike indicator (chevron on the primary flight display) wich represents the limit that the pilot can not exceed during the rotation to avoid a tailstrike, they have as well an auto-callout "pitch-pitch" to warn the crew, but i guess this old generation of 747 is still equipped with conventional instrument...

But I am going Off topic...
Re: Cargo B Tailstrike
In meantime, actiongroup Noordrand/Boreas is using the pictures (shown here on the forum) and posts on their site. They are mentioning Luchtzak but is that legal too?sn26567 wrote:Indeed. We have been asked to remove them for legal reasons.Bralo20 wrote:It seems that the pictures are gone?

they are not only mentioning... they even copy/paste this forum !!!
Re: Cargo B Tailstrike
Can somebody tell us where the balast blocks of depleted uranium are mounted in the old B747?
This question is caused by seeing the picture, and remembering the El Al crash at Amsterdam, when there was also the problem of the radio active balast blocks.

Re: Cargo B Tailstrike
Why on earth would it be illegal to show the picture of an aircraft that has been abused ?
It's not good for the image and reputation of CargoB, agreed.
But it's a bit like those airlines who hide their name on a crashed aircraft ... not very helpful !

Re: Cargo B Tailstrike
Noordrand is one of the many NIMBY-action groups : not in my back yard. "I need an airplane to go on holiday, and that plane needs an airport to take off and land. And yes, the plane that takes me on holiday makes some noise during take off and landing. So what? But I don't want to hear the airplanes from other tourists, going on holiday: those planes have to make a detour to avoid my back yard."Desert Rat wrote: May I ask what is Noordrand/Borealis ?????
Some stories about these Nimby's are really unbelievable. Like the lady from Awaccs, Miss Peggy, who also runs an import export company near the airport. So she phones Brucargo every now and then to ask if her goods have already been cleared by customs. And five minutes later, she files a complaint about too much noise from the cargo plane that brought in her stuff.
euh, think this was off topic ...

To explain why these photo's are most likely illegal:airazurxtror wrote:Why on earth would it be illegal to show the picture of an aircraft that has been abused ?

- all camera's on tarmac have to be permited by the airport authority, BAC in this case. e.g.: u cant take pictures with any other camera while they are loading or unloading.
- all logo's of an airline are trademarks and therefore u need permission of the owner to use them, and no they won't mind if you use them to honor them.
Lucky for us they can't and won't check it all and realy nice pictures can be taken. But do not share them on the internet if you do take some of these "illegal" pictures, it may get you in trouble if the airline or airport authority realy want to persue u.
