Hi,
I just got a phonecall from my girlfriend. She's on flight TSC152 (Air Transat) from Montréal to Brussels. They more or less departed on time (9pm local time on 21/10/08) and flew for 2 hours heading for Brussels. Suddenly, after 2 hours, inside the plane it started to smell like burned rubber and the pilots announced they had to turn back to Montréal airport. They descended very quickly and it only took 40 minutes to turn back! At arrival in Montréal, firetrucks were waiting for them.
Right now, the plane is still grounded and the passengers don't get any information what so ever. According to the Brussels airport website, new estimated arrival time is 1.50pm.
As soon as I know more, I'll post an update!
Regards,
Sven

It's for me really strange that 2 hours of flight can be shortened to 40 minutes, even in case of emergency ....
Imagine a BRU - MAD in 40 minutes...
Does someone have any explanation ?
Cheers,
Olivier

Maybe they were not flying at all. It smelled inside like burned rubber. So maybe the pilot came to the conclusion after doing 2 hours of rounds around the airport that something was wrong . We have read previous reports about drunken pilots
