Here's one for ya! static powered aircraft?

Post by serpontaie »

hey im an interesting bloke who writes about curious things, i wrote the 6 engine human powered aircraft thread!

Anyway, imagine an ultralight powered by the static electricity that is created by friction during flight. Im no expert with electricity OR friction but what i do know is that air resistance=friction and friction can make small amounts of static electricity. Maybe you could have some kind of micro exposed wires on the outside of the aircraft collecting static and transefering it to a battery of sorts which in turn powers a small prop.

I beleive in the future there will be advances in this kind of stuff and that we may be introduced to ideas like this more often in civil aviation.

just post your opinions and be nice - it's only my second thread :!:

Fundamentally impossible.

The energy of frictional static electricity comes from, well, friction. And not all energy spent on friction is recovered as electricity.

the power gained from this could be increased by adding little fiddly bits to rub against each other maybe???

Yes this reminds me of the question someone asked on luchtzak a while ago about powering an aircraft by placing wind turbines on it...
