Incident on SN 1138 BDS-GVA

Post by HighInTheSky »

On Sunday, flight SN 1138 suffered some problems during a charter flight from Brindisi (Italy) to Geneva. Before take off there was a warning in the cockpit of the RJ 100 (OO-DWF) that a door wasn't closed properly. Ground staff was contacted to check, they gave the all ok.

The plane took off, but they were unable to pressurize the cabin. At that moment, the captain took the deciscion to return to the airport of Brindisi and circle around to burn some fuel.

On the ground it all became clear... Ground staff had left the hydraulics bay wide open and locked...

How can something like this still happen? It wasn't a disaster nor an emergency, but still, these things should never happen...

Pax and crew were ok. Nobody suffered any problems.

Ps: This plane also did the SN 2718 GVA-BRU on Sunday evening, that's why there was a delay of almost 5 hours.

I'm not type-rated on this aircraft, I don't understand what you mean by "hydraulics bay wide open and locked" (sorry :)).

What is it ?

Well, sounds like the ground staff at Brindisi was not type rated for that kind of aircraft either

It is a bay, with a acces door, and that door opens to the inside, where you can lock it into the 'open' postion and it stays open without the risk of falling down on the person that is inside.

They handle these charterflights with RJ's almost every week.

Ok thanks... but why is it called "hydraulics bay" ? Is it an hydraulically-actuated door/panel or does it give access to the hydraulic reservoirs/lines/accessories/etc. ?

Regarding your "then you can always find an excuse" comment, I don't think it's an excuse, it's merely an explanation. What's important is what they do about it now so that it never happens again.

It gives acces to hydraulic systems.

capt. or first off. have to check the aircraft too and its not like ground handling needs to be in there unless a mechanic checked it out and forgot
