OO-VEN to DXB ?

Post by Robin_Bamps »

Hi all,

I just got an e-mail from a reliable source that OO-VEN was ferried to DXB via ATH yesterday.

Someone knows the reason for this?

Thanks in advance,

Robin Bamps.

Why are they sending the 737 to Dubai for maintenance while they have Sabena technics in their backyard ?

It's probably a time and/or money and/or expertise issue.

On Airliners.net you can find pictures of various European airlines (LH, KL, MP, LY...) doing some of their (heavy) maintenance at Xiamen, China.

It may cost 10-20 thousand euro extra to fly OO-VEN to Dubai, compared to towing it right in front of Hangar 41. However there may be an issue that Sabena Technics may not have an available slot to take care of the aircraft right now, when it would be most convenient for the Brussels Airlines fleet planning. The extra cost of ferrying the aircraft to Dubai may be marginal compared to the commercial cost of not having the aircraft operational for a period of time.

It's not uncommon at all. Maybe for SN, but TNT does send some 737's to China for maintenance sometimes!

Concerning LH, KL and MP, it is mainly for their MD-11's which indeed go there for the heavy maintenance. ( From reliable sources  )

When I'm in Xiamen, sometimes we pass the Taeco hangars and I almost always see a Lufthansa 747 standing there.

Kind regards,

From what I heard considering Sabena Technics : Heavy Maintenance is fully booked for the entire winter ... no more room to squeez enything inbewteen.

Currently, the Armavia A320 is about ready and the S7 A319 will now be handled.

That's already more than 1,5 years ago. I don't think that has something to do with it.
