Airport terminal evacuated in Eugene

Hi Everyone,

Federal authorities spent Thursday trying to determine why a man would check a bag at the Eugene Airport that contained what appeared to be a large pipe bomb.

A Transportation Security Administration screener flagged the man's bag after spotting the device shortly after 6 a.m. in the airport's checked baggage area, authorities said.

Transportation officials evacuated the terminal by about 6:30 a.m., according to Cathryn Stephens, a Eugene Airport spokeswoman. The airport reopened at 10:30 a.m.
