I don't really like the looks yet (I do like the colours though), but at last an other milestone for Russian civil aviation industry.
Hopes are high on this one, lets hope it lifts off in the economic sense as well!

I love it   , nice nose and it looks even bigger and certainly higher than a B737.

Can't wait to see the first jet in SN colours.

Almost everything is or at least looks higher than a 737, except for DC-9 derivatives.

I doubt it is higher than the 737, since it seats almost twice as much pax I believe. It looks way smaller, and even the engines look smal to me.
Perception is personal though!

To me it looks a bit like a chubby Embraer 175 or a longer version of the Fairchild Dornier 728 JET (as if someone has been pulling it by its tail and nose) :)

It looks good anyway... (although I'm not convinced by the flag detail that was painted on the nose...looks a bit strange to my taste)
It's the start of a new era in Russian aviation as well.

I would not mind flying a modern Russian aircraft (see what's happening with Canadian made Dash 8 - Q400). As a passenger, what would make me avoid the aircraft is the economy class seat width (most airlines will opt for) which is only 16.23 inches (on Sukhoi's web site) compared to 18.5 on the Embraer 170 family of aircraft. These two inches (5 cm) make a big difference. I have flown on an EMB170 : it was comfortable. I have flown on the Q400 with an 16.5 inches seat width : it was cramped uncomfortable seating.
I'm sure from the technical point of view the Sukhoi Superjet is ok, but I don't understand an aircraft manufacturer offering such a narrow seat on a newly developped plane when it is widely known that people are getting bigger and take up more space. How can such development mistakes be made ?

which is only 16.23 inches (on Sukhoi's web site)
And on the Sukhoi website:

"Sukhoi Superjet 100 is a new aircraft family allowing its passengers to experience the mainline level of comfort.

The fuselage cross-section increases the aisle width up to 20.08”, offering optimal aisle height combined with five-abreast seat configuration. The height of the ceiling totals 83.46”, while each seat is 18.31” wide.

Have any of you guys ever been to Russia? Their standards are much lower to say the least. Russian aircraft don't compare to Western aircraft.

This one does, since they are advised by Boeing and partly owned by some Italian firm...

ItalI airlines has ordered 10 already I believe.

Yes I have been to Russia, unfortunately I didn't have the chance to fly any of their Russian nor soviet planes. I personally think that you need to make a difference between the quality levels set by Soviet planes, and the "newer" Russian planes. That the comfort on a Tu-134, Tu-154, Yak-40... is low, I guess so. But is the comfort on the later planes like Tu-204/214 Il-96, IL-114, Tu-334, su-80... still that much lower as the past?
Anyone who has experience flying any of these, please comment.

Hi Fly4Hours : Sukhoi seems to give different info on different sites. If you go to www.sukhoi.org/en/ click on Superjet 100, then on Interiors, then on cabin views economy class, the seat width is 16.23, whereas in the info you refer to it is indeed 18.31 inches. I don't have an explanation for this. Do you by ant chance have one ?

If it'll be operated by so called "western airlines" it will have to obtain the JAA certification !!

Hi Air Key West, it's not your fault

There is a conversion error on their website:

http://www.sukhoi.org/img/content/rrj/econom.jpg

1inch= 2.54cm or 25.4mm

Russia basically uses the metric system, and converts its values to the imperial system.

Try to convert the 463mm figure in inches:
it will give 463/25.4=18.228 inches instead of the mentionned 16,23 inches.

Obviously they have mistaken the 18 for a 16 :D
I hope they didn't make mistakes in their design calculations

I sent them an e-mail to notify them.
