I fully agree that Emirates should at least double its A380 order.
The discussion about overcapacity in the Gulf region is done by people who probably never have been in the Gulf. Or by people who have no idea what happens in the Gulf.
If we see how many B744 have been build, against all predictions in the 60's and 70's, we can conclude that there is a place for the A380 as well.

First of all : the world population has gone from 3.5 billion in 1965 to + 6.5 billion now.
Second: the general income has increased combined with the cheap air travel development. ( better organisation, cheaper airplanes)
Third: the need to fly for business reasons has increased.
fourth: the development of China and India alone needs seat capacity unseen in the past.

So give us those A380's, they should have been here already 10-15 years after all.

And we will see the A380 being used for point to point travel as well, contradictory against the hub-to-hub idea. Some personnal ideas:
  • Düsseldorf-Tenerife,
    Manchester-Karachi,
    Gatwick-Cape Town,
    Paris Orly-Mauritius,
    Mumbai-Doha.
It will be a real mass people carrier, a real bus in the air.

Yea but if Emirates double their order to let's say 110 A380s, including Qatar and Eithad there would be over 120 A380s just for airlines based in that region.
