Nikon DSLR camera D70
Nikon is relasing a 'budget' Digital SLR, in direct competition to the Canon D300. Priced at 1100eur (official price) it will make digital photograhy possible for a lot of people

Don't tell me .. I am the happy owner of the Canon EOS D10.. and it really is a dream! I also read some very good comments on the D300 camera, but nice to see nikon giving some competition, maybe the prices will become even sharper!
Maybe it is still a little more expensive to buy your equipment, but just have a look around and you will find great deals on the market! I bought mine in Germany just over the border, with the discount I got i was able to buy 2 great zooms!
Vonsmalhausen, wat lenses are you canon D300?
Digital photography, Just try it and you will love it!

i'm verry happy with my 300D, the only thing that i "regret" on the 300 compared to the Cannon 10D or Nikon D100 is the burst of only 4 frames, but until now this did not give me restriktions for wath i do most : planespotting.
planes are passing fast , so mostly i use only 3 of the 4 possible frames (anyway, relese the shutterbutton for just one second, and you have 2 frames back, after 2 sec. the buffer is ready for another burst of 4) after those 3 pics you have to refocuse, or the plane is out of "the picture" anyway.
i have the kit lens ; 18 - 55 mm
the new Canon 55 - 200 mm usm
and the Sigma 70 - 300 mm super macro.........remember it's digital, so these mm have tho be X factor 1.6
with those lenses i have all i need for spotting @ EBBR or Florennes/KB

Untill last year I was one of those who sweared never to change to digital photography, because slide film would always be much better than digital.
Now , working for about one year with the digital Canon EOS 1D and EOS 1Ds, my opinion is completely changed.
The quality is (almost) as good as film, you can work as fast as with a "normal" EOS 1, it doesn't matter how much pictures you take, and you don't have to worry anymore about the x-ray machines at the airports.
(Sometimes during my travels I hadup to over 200 rolls of film with me, and if they have to pass a few time through the x-ray, and although they say it doesn't hurt, I can assure it isn't good either)
And some CF card and storage box takes a lot less place than all those rolls of film.
Espacially for aviation photography you also have the advantage that the lens focal is multiplied by 1.4 or more which gives you a 420mm lens for the price of a 300mm
So keep on "clicking"

I plan to go Digital in August. Because I allready have several lenses for Canon camera's, I will stay with Canon ofcourse. At first I wanted the EOS 300D, because it was the cheapest around with Canon. But after reading allot of reviews and talking to many people, I changed my mind. Now it's going to be a 10D. This one has an maximum 9 frame burst with 3 frames per second. It's servo AF is excellent and thus ideal for aviation photografie.
An advice I wanna give to everyone : Buy your stuff in Germany !!! Taxes are much lower there. Result : much lower price of your products. Some even 30% cheaper than here in Belgium.
For example : EOS 300D (when it was just released) costed 1400€ here in Belgium. In germany that was 1100€. And you don't have to worry about the warranty as you get a European Warranty Certificat with your camera.
At present, the Canon EOS 10D only costs 1449€ in Germany ... he's made a long drop from his 2200€ ...
A great store in Germany, just accros the border in Düren :

The owner of the shop fluently speaks German, Dutch and English ! You can place your order by e-mail and have it sent to your house OR you can go there and just pick it up. Meanwhile, while you're there, you can continue to DUS or CGN :jump2:

Canon won't just let this happen. There are 2 options :
Canon releases a new DSLR that can do everything the D70 can, but is cheaper.
Canon releases a new DSLR that can do more than the D70 and yet has the same price.
When Canon has released this camera, Nikon will do the same thing again. And so it will continue to be ... Eventually DSLR's will become as cheap as SLR's (talking about 10 years or something like that)

Liebensd,
you must realise that they can never make a DSLR for 100€, just like they can't make an SLR for 100€. They will get cheaper, but what will 6Mp be in 10 years ?
NOTHING !
It will always get better, even now there allready is a 40Mp-sensor ...
The camera's will get much better then the one's they have now. You will allways have the choice between advanced-amateur (like 300D) and semi professional (like 10D) and this will allways bring a difference in price, like you have with the EOS 33 and EOS 300 with normal SLR's.
My point is that within 10 years you will be able to get 100Mp (image of 12.000 x 8.000 for example) DSLR for the same price you pay now for let's say an EOS 300V, about 400€.
The prices will probably never go below that. They will stabilize at about 400€ (or maybe at 5, 6 or 700, who knows) and then just the quality of the camera's will improve.
Who knows, they might have an affordable 3D-camera by then
Please share your opinion.
