Hello.
Sorry for my bad Englisch.
Why Jet Airways stops in Brussels.
Or cant the B777 not fly de India-USA nonstop.
When i travel i want to fly direct from A to B.
I think it wil not stay forever in Brussels.
What ar your meenings.

The reason is pretty simple: By building a hub in Brussels, Jet Airways can offer a large number of so-called 'one-stop' flights from India to North America and back. A direct flight from Mumbai to Newark would cater just to the market between those two cities. Once the Brussels hub is established, Jet Airways will offer one-stop flights not just from Mumbai to Newark, but also to New York JFK, Toronto, Chicago and Los Angeles. They will offer those same destinations one-stop from Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chennai and Bangalore.
On top of that, with those same flights they will also tap into the India-Europe market. Because they codeshare with Brussels Airlines, they will also offer daily one-stop services between these Indian cities and quite a few 'smaller' European cities that can't support direct non-stop flights.
Finally, let's not forget the local market in Brussels, which will also add to the total.
In summary: yes, a direct flight could be a better option, but not every 'city pair' has enough traffic to warrant a direct flight. So passengers travelling on that city pair will have to change planes somewhere. Jet figured that, if passengers need to change planes somewhere, they'd rather do so in a nice modern airport like Brussels than in places like Delhi and Mumbai which, and I'm being nice here, don't have really good reputations...

By connecting 5 cities in North America (Newark, New York JFK, Chicago, Los Angeles and Toronto) with 5 cities in India (Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and ?Hyderabad) through a central hub at Brussels, you create not only 5 routes, but in total 35 city pair combinations. That makes it a LOT easier to fill aircraft than trying to fill 300+ seats every day with point-to-point passengers.
Furthermore, even where a direct flight between the US east coast and India is technically possible and operated by some carriers, the weight of the extra fuel has an impact on payload capacity.
A direct flight from all these destinations to all the other destinations is surely more comfortable, but no airline can afford such offer, and market demand is not big enough to allow it.

As already pointed out, India-USA nonstop might be technically possible but only with a lot less payload ==> less profitable - and do not forget these airlines are NOT operating for the delight of showing us their nice planes, their prime reason is to make money.Lawrence wrote:Hello.

Apart from that, I am not sure if many people really want to be on a plane for such a long time (18 hours or so?); this is an important argument for services like London-Australia where operators seem to hesitate to fly non-stop. But as I understand the B777ER was specifically designed for such very long distances, we'll have to see its success. There was at least one discussion of this subject on these pages.
Also: trade and industry in India are booming, so even if the BRU-USA offer is suspended some day, there will be quite some demand between Brussels and India. The carrier who is now investing in that route will be best placed to continue it, if they can make it through the first couple of months we're bound to see them for a long while yet.

Does it mean that you will now try as much as possible to fly through Brussels? Is price an issue for you or at least for your company? I've another question..
If they make BRU their european hub by mid 2008,shouldn't they open a base in Brussels? They are planning a total of 10 daily long haul flights!!
They have bases in KUL,BKK,... why not here in BRU ?
What about the language fact...If they want to transport pax from Africa to India or North-America and vice versa without French speaking FA's...can imagine the troubles onboard!!!
What do you guys think about this ?

Will the people on board speak french ? If you can travel over the world you can speak english . With french you will do nothing onto the market in Mumbai .

Yes and even more than VG airlines after 2 months .

For the language issue, they are planning to implement French/Dutch speaking FA in the future(lets say at least 1 FA), but it's not as easy as you may think. Imagine salary problems between employees from Belgium and India ?

If you may believe them, they are much better then the US-carriers. We will try and see, if so I'm going to be a regular traveller with them.

I do not want to sound prejudiced, but 9W is a good carrier. They really offer service.
Also, they will employ french speaking people to handle their helm.
Bru will soon be made into a hub because a lot of Gujarati community who specialise in Diamond trade are based in Antwerp and the United States.
And believe me, these people are loaded and when they travel, they have weight with them. So, i guess 9W just hit the jackpot

On several forums I see posts of people talking about the loads of first Jet Airways flights. If my sources are correct the flights should be full booked for the 2 next weeks. Don't worry ... it's normal.
