I have never been to either venue, I only visited the Tannheim aerodrome a couple of months ago. So I cannot very well compare, yet it seems that "European Oshkosh" is a bit over-ambitious. Luckily you wrote "kinda" but even that seems a far cry... I understand Oshkosh saw visits of B747, Constellation , B17, well well I'd like to see those on the 1000 meters grass runway at Tannheim. Indeed I believe of all Europe, only the UK has some fly-ins that can more or less compare to Oshkosh, both for size and for the numbers of rare planes.

Let it be clear that Tannheim is a nice place: quite free access (you can drive your car straight onto the runway if you like, not that I'd recommend it), friendly people and a nice bar/restaurant, what more can we want? But Oshkosh is quite in another ballpark.

Don't be so critical man...

You say it yourself: you haven't been there yet.
I've been to quite some fly-in's in Europe and Tim is right, this is without doubt one of the biggest. (last year 1000 arrivals on Saturday)
This year the weather wasn't good to say the least and still there were 600-700 visitors from all over Europe.

And OK, planes like the B.747 and Constellation aren't there, but so what? There are plenty of other very interesting aircraft. After all we don't have as many warbirds and propliners in Europe as they do in the States...

I only said Oshkosh is in another ballpark, so the term "the European Oshkosh" is a far cry. And I'll stand by that. Is that being critical? So be it.

Or do you want to call Bobbejaanland the Belgian Disneyworld? So be it.

If you say it like that, you could also say that America is in another ballpark than Europe (considering aviation)...

Yep absolutely. And then even in Europe there's differences, certainly France is more aviation-minded than Belgium, and Wallonia is more aviation-minded than Flanders, and so on.

Let me state once more: I hold nothing against the Tannheim organisers or their event, on the contrary. Tannheim is a very nice G/A airfield, and I am sure the fly-inn is a great organisation. But comparing them to Oshkosh is not fair, the backgrounds and circumstances are too far apart.

as it seems you're not planning to give up and I'm tired of having this discussion I'm not going to say much more..

Tim and me, we were there and we experienced it first-hand. So we know what it's like. Maybe you should do that too..

Hi

Yeah altough I haven't been there either...It seems to me that it indeed is the Oshkosh of Europe to me...I do must say that idd in Oshkosh also are some jets (fighters and others) are present, but that would be impossible at Tannheim. But I didn't know there where even Warbirds up there...nice to see the Texan, the Corsair and the Mitchell there it seems :).

You couldn't either call the Duxford 2007 show 'the mile of mustangs' but yet I think it was a great show, even knowing it was my first.

Best regards: Yannick ;)
