Swiss (LX/Zurich) will place an order for 9 A330-300s through its parent Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt). It will also lease three additional ex-Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) A340-300s. Swiss has wet-leased a BAe 146-300 from Flightline (UK) (B5/Southend) for its Zurich-Birmingham route and a MD-82 from Spanair (JK/Palma de Mallorca) for its Zurich-Nice and Zurich-Madrid routes until the end of the summer season. The new longhaul aircraft will allow Swiss to open new longhaul services:
Zurich-Delhi: daily A330-200 service starting on November 25
Zurich-Shanghai Pu Dong: daily A340-300 service starting on March 30, 2008
In other news, Swiss has signed a codeshare agreement with Star Alliance partner US Airways (US/Charlotte).
